Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church Awareness Forum

Why have a campaign now? We’ve got great momentum going… keeping it going is the best way to stay ministry- focused during the upcoming senior pastor transition

How will Onward! keep our momentum going?  By paying off the rest of our debt (details later)  Paying off our mortgage will free up approx. $100k per year more  That allows us to strengthen ministry momentum  Less is More has freed up about $180k per year, split 2/3…1/3 between church and school, toward both the ministry and support portions of our budget.

What did the feasibility study reveal about ministry momentum?  98% of our congregation believe we’re doing a good job of reaching out into our community  96% feel that Royal Redeemer is meeting their spiritual needs  The areas most frequently mentioned as oppor- tunities to expand our ministries were youth and seniors. More information about plans to expand our worship ministries was also needed

How will ONWARD! address those concerns?  We’ll be explaining our youth ministry vision, listing dozens of “youth-in-ministry” opportunities, as well as strengthening the core of youth ministry  We’ll continue planning for expanded seniors ministry, implementing new ideas for “seniors-in- ministry”

How will ONWARD! Address those concerns?  We’ll explain how the additional worship leader we’re currently seeking, will expand our existing worship life, and allow us to offer new worship styles.  We’ll demonstrate more clearly the benefits which a new worship center could provide; and,  We’ll be preparing ourselves to utilize that new worship center, if and when it actually happens

Is this campaign about a new worship center, or isn’t it? ONWARD! Is designed to put us in a better position for a new worship center, without asking us to make a decision about it right now

How will ONWARD! put us in a better position for a new worship center?  Addresses the “senior pastor transition” concern  Deals with the feedback from the Feasibility Study that we’re not ready to fund a new worship center now… Let’s do what we can to put ourselves in a better financial position, not just debt retirement, but also…

How will ONWARD! put us in a better position for a new worship center?  “Reserve” $1,000,000 of bequest gifts for a new worship center, without making a final decision now  Let’s us keep growing our ministries, especially the ones that will allow us utilize a new worship center from “day one”

Just to be clear, is this campaign really a decision for a new worship center? The beauty of ONWARD! is that it puts us in a better position for a new worship center, without asking us to make a decision about it now. We’re trusting the Lord to show us His plans, and His timing. 

OK…back to our debt. Is it really possible to pay off our mortgage? Yes it is! Here’s some background information: Fact: Royal Redeemer doubled in worship attendance during the 1990’s

OK…back to our debt. Is it really possible to pay off our mortgage? Fact: Royal Redeemer invested more than $8 million in expanding our facilities: Gathering Room & Activity Center 2002 – Commons, Nursery, School, Children’s, Youth and Adult space to the north Fact: In spite of the economic challenges of 2001 and 2008, we were down to $3.2 million of debt at the beginning of Less is More, in 2010

OK…back to our debt. Is it really possible to pay off our mortgage? Fact: We’re on track to pay off $1 million of debt through our current campaign, Less is More Fact: Through a combination of our regular mortgage payments, refinancing at lower interest rates, and using some of the generous bequest gifts for debt reduction, our debt now stands at $1.3 million.

OK…back to our debt. Is it really possible to pay off our mortgage? We intend to reduce our debt to $1 million by the time we start the ONWARD! Campaign The campaign will enable us to pay off our mortgage by November With God, nothing is impossible! Luke 1:37

What is included in the ONWARD! Campaign? It’s a 2-year $1,000,000 campaign: $900,000 for debt retirement (along with regular mortgage payments, we will pay off our mortgage by Nov 2015)

What is included in the ONWARD! Campaign? $100,000 for short-term ministry needs: $50,000 for worship area renovations (sanctuary and activity center) $25,000 for “Servant Saturday” type projects $25,000 for emergency repairs Reserve $1,000,000 of bequest gifts for a new worship center

Is $1,000,000 a reasonable goal? Less Is More commitments were over $1,400,000 for 3 years. $1,000,000 seems reasonable over 2 years. What is God saying to our hearts?

Some Personal “Next Steps” Pray about how the Lord wants us to “Move Forward in Ministry” at Royal Redeemer Begin seeking God’s will about your support for ONWARD! Allow room for Faith. God will help you see His plan and trust His promises!

We’re all at different “places” in life The first “over and above” giving opportunity …and “reviewing priorities” The opportunity to “move toward tithing” The challenge to “sacrificial giving” The “once-in-lifetime” giving opportunity The “widow’s mite” The “gift-planning” opportunity
