Effective Collaboration Norms and Guidelines In order to cultivate a climate where everyone is focused on ongoing, positive growth and improving student achievement, use the Seven Norms of Collaboration. Seven Norms of Collaboration 1. Promoting a Spirit of Inquiry and Balancing Advocacy 2. Pausing 3. Paraphrasing 4. Probing 5. Putting Ideas on the Table 6. Paying Attention to Self and Others 7. 3 Learning Target I can describe the key components of the 3-8 ELA modules. And…use several strategies for introducing the modules to others.

EngageNY.org4 Writing Sort - In Triads You have done this activity before, but this sort includes tasks from NEW MODULES! Module 4, Grades 3-5, All of Module 1, Grades Writing Modes or “Types” - 10 min  Sort strips by type.  Discuss the patterns you notice as a group. 2.Writing from Sources – 5 min  Sort strips by writing that requires using sources vs. writing that does not.  Discuss the patterns you notice as a group. 3.Research to Build and Present Knowledge – 5 min  Sort strips by writing that addresses research standards vs. writing that does not.

EngageNY.org5 Discuss with Your Triad What general conclusions you can make about either...  Module 4: grades 3-5 or  Module 1: grades 6-8 What you can conclude about the modules by analyzing the writing assessments?  How does looking at the assessments inform you about this new set of modules?

EngageNY.org7 Module Intro Brainstorm Spend 2 minutes in quiet reflection  Based on your experience over the past year, and knowledge of the modules, brainstorm other ways of introducing the modules. Whip around the table, one person at time  Share your idea(s) when it is your turn

EngageNY.org8 Brainstorm Purpose: to reflect on the past year & brainstorm new ways for introducing the modules to others in the coming year Reflect & jot ideas down for how to introduce the modules to others so they understand the key characteristics (2 min) Whip around the table to share – one person at a time, no commentary in between (4 min)
