Fractions A search tutorial for Miss Lewinski’s 2 nd grade class

Hello! Today we are going to learn about fractions and practice using them. Get your thinking caps on!

Before getting started, we need to make sure we know some terms. Icon: An icon is a symbol that looks like a picture on a computer screen. Address bar: This is the white box at the top of the internet screen where you type the web address. Search bar: This is a special feature that helps you find something. You can type in a word, and the computer will find different websites that relate to that word! Web address: This is what the website is. Normally, they start with http. and end with.com,.org, or.edu.http.

Let’s get started! First, you need to find and double click the Internet Explorer icon. It looks like this:

Next, you need to find the address bar. Click on it so the words are highlighted in blue. Then, type in the new website.

Now, type in the address bar at the top of the page.

Next, type “fractions” into the search bar (circled in red below) and push the Enter key.

Next, click on the word “Fractions” underneath the Green bar. The web address is com/fra.html. com/fra.html

Your screen should now look like this:

Next, click on the first link, “Basic Fractions”

Now, look at the top of the list. Click on “Beginning Fractions.”

Next, scroll down the page. Use the arrow on the right side of the screen to help you.

Stop when the word “Fractions” in the box is at the top of the screen. It will look like this:

Now, read about the fractions. Make sure you know what a fraction is! Look at the different ways to show fractions.

What this fraction looks like in words.

What this fraction looks like in numbers.

Do you know what fractions are? Do you know how to read them? If you think you know them, then you are ready for the next step. If you still need some practice, go back and review. Think time!

So, you are ready to show me what you have learned? Great! Let’s get started!

Now, find the arrow to scroll down the page again.

Stop when you can see the whole blue box that says “Practice” at the top. It will look like this:

Now, you get to show me how much you have learned. This is what will happen. You will be asked how much of the box is shaded blue. The answer choices are listed for you. Your job is click on the right answer choice.

Your job is to answer twenty (20) questions for me. You will need to use your addition skills to know when you are finished. When the two boxes circled below in red add together to equal twenty, you are finished.

When you are ready, click on the “Start” Button.

Great job! You have answered twenty questions. There is one more job for you to do! Click on the yellow box that says “Report Totals.”

Once you click on it, a box will appear that looks like this:

Once this appears, you need to click inside the box after the words “Type Name before Printing.”

After you type your name, click on the button that says “Print.”

A Print box will appear. Click “Print” at the bottom.

There is one more task I need you to do. You have to tell me where you found your information! This just means I am giving credit to the person who made the website. For a Works Cited, you need to give me three things: 1.The name of the website you used 2.The web address of the website 3.The date

First, you need write down the name of the Website. Normally, it will be listed in the blue bar at the top of the screen.

Next, you need to write down the web address.

Finally, you need to write down the date. In the end, your Works Cited should look something like this: Fractions. October 17,
