HONEY

Sardinia is an island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea known all over the world for its clear crystal waters and unique natural heritage

Sardinia is the Italian region that produces one of the most valuable honey.

This is due to the floral richness of the island and low presence of pollution

In Sardinia the tecniques of beekeeping and honey production follow rituals practised by many generations in tune with the rythm of nature.

The mild climate and the abundance of flowers facilitates the practise of nomadic beekeeping.

That is, to move the beehives to areas where a certain kind of flower is prevalent and are thus able to produce different kinds of honey, each one characteristic of a particular Sardinian flower.

Arbatus Honey (Corbezzolo or miele amaro)

Originating from Sardinia, Miele Amaro hits the palate with a unique sweetness, followed by a slightly bitter aftertaste.

This honey is collected after three months of pollination on flowers of the rare Arbutus Unedo plant.

Miele Amaro is useful in salads and main dishes as well as in desserts

Eucalyptus honey Colour: amber. Aroma: aromatic, intense. Taste: strong, persistent, pleasant. Crystallizzation: thick with fine crystals, easily soluble. Origin: South Italy and Sardinia.

The eucalyptus and a wide variety of plants also produce excellent multi-floral honey and other single flower varieties.

Orange Honey Colour: white Aroma: soft Taste: pleasant Crystallization: very slow, with thin crystals, clear, little soluble Origin: Calabria, Sicily and Sardinia

WHAT’S HONEY MADE OF?

What are the most important honey properties ? Honey exhibits a surprising number of health benefits, many known for thousands of years.

It is best known as an antibiotic, used to treat cuts and burns, but also relieve sore throats, suppressing coughs due to colds, as well as improve immune system function.

It can be used in cooking and baking, spread on bread, as a sweetener. This wonderfully rich and fragrant liquid is the world's oldest sweetener.

This delightful ingredient can be enjoyed alone, drizzled on crackers and fruit, or mixed into vinaigrettes or sauces for main dishes and, of course, desserts.

Honey is also an important ingredient in the preparation of many sardinian sweets such as Walnut and Almond Torrone.

It is also used in the Sehadas (a fried pastry made of cheese served With honey on top) or served with different types of cheeses.

It is also used in the skin care

Unfortunately nowadays pollution and other environmental changes are threating the survival of bees.

We could live without honey but bees are responsible for pollinating a third of all crops in the world today.Without them the future generations are going to have serious food supply problems
