PDI background Partnership Drugs Initiative (PDI) is a relationship grant-making programme and a partnership between Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland and Scottish Government and recently The Robertson Trust. Focused on children and young people affected by drug and/or alcohol issues (either their own or that of a parent/carer) Established in 2001 to: o increase the well-being of children and young people in Scotland affected by drugs and alcohol o help develop and influence both local and national policy and strategic direction

PDI ethos & approach Develop working relationships with funded groups: o Importance of understanding their work o Support and networking Look at understanding local needs and view: o Connecting to local strategies (Alcohol & Drug Partnerships) o How to add value Support the national policy: o Using the learning from the ground up o Connecting to policy priorities (GIRFEC, CAPSM, Road to Recovery, Alcohol Framework)

o Support for up to 50% of overall costs of project o Multi-year funding o Applications in partnership with local Alcohol and Drug Partnership o Focus on outcomes and demonstrating connection to local need PDI criteria

o Help to develop applications o Experience from 13 years of supporting groups o Support and training to help demonstrate the positive impact for children, young people and families o Networking and training to share from other projects delivering similar services PDI support

PDI strategy Be Proactive: Increase engagement with local partners across Scotland. Target areas of need to address gaps and extend reach. Communicate learning: Share more effective knowledge from PDI over the last 13 years. Optimise Available Funding: Attract new partners and increase the size of the pot.

What makes a good project o Trusting relationships and continuity of staffing. o Flexibility and addressing presenting needs helps with therapeutic interventions. o Change doesn’t happen in isolation there needs to be a connection to the local landscape and other local partners (both statutory and other voluntary groups).

o Experiences from other parts of Scotland – no need to reinvent – we need to learn from what we know on what works and what hasn’t o Capacity building – 3 day evaluation training programme understanding how to measure the difference you make can help strength projects o Enables more to be achieved - we have awarded excess of £20m 50% matched funding equates to £40m throughout Scotland Adding value

o Opportunity to work collaboratively – promoted and supported partnership models across Scotland o Widen networking opportunities – attending PDI events engaging with other practitioners encouraging conversations that promotes practice development and learning o Helps to contribute to local outcomes –everyone plays a part in a collective response that helps individuals achieve positive change Adding value
