TRACY WAS SO BUSY TODAY THAT SHE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO EAT LUNCH. BEFORE SOCCER PRACTICE, SHE BOUGHT A CANDY BAR FROM THE VENDING MACHINE. HALFWAY THROUGH PRACTICE, TRACY FELT TIRED AND DRAINED.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. HOW YOU FEEL AND HOW MUCH ENERGY YOU HAVE TO BE ACTIVE HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH WHAT YOU EAT. TRACY WAS FEELING TIRED DURING PRACTICE BECAUSE SHE HADN’T EATEN ENOUGH.

EATING RESPONSIBLY HEALTH – GRADE 8 WEEK 3

NUTRITION IS THE STUDY OF HOW OUR BODIES USE THE FOOD WE EAT TO MAINTAIN OUR HEALTH. NUTRITION AFFECTS MANY OF THE THINGS YOU DO EVERY DAY. THE SUBSTANCES IN FOOD GIVE YOU ENERGY YOU NEED FOR LEARNING, STUDYING, STAYING ACTIVE, AND HANGING OUT WITH YOUR FRIENDS. PRACTICING GOOD NUTRITION MEANS EATING FOODS THAT ARE GOOD FOR YOU AND EATING THEM IN THE RIGHT AMOUNTS.

EATING TOO LITTLE FOOD CAN LEAD TO LOW ENERGY, WEIGHT LOSS, POOR GROWTH, AND IF SEVERE ENOUGH, DEATH. EATING TOO MUCH FOOD CAN CAUSE YOU TO BECOME OVERWEIGHT BECAUSE OF EXCESS BODY FAT. BEING OVERWEIGHT CAN LEAD TO OBESITY (WEIGHING MORE THAN 20% ABOVE YOUR RECOMMENDED WEIGHT RANGE) AND CAN INCREASE YOUR RISK OF MANY DISEASES AND DISORDERS.

THERE ARE SIX CLASSES OF NUTRIENTS CARBOHYDRATES, FATS, AND PROTEINS PROVIDE YOUR BODY WITH ENERGY. VITAMINS AND MINERALS HELP YOUR BODY USE AND REGULATE THE ENERGY FROM OTHER NUTRIENTS. WATER HELPS TRANSPORT NUTRIENTS, LUBRICATES YOUR JOINTS, AND REGULATES YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE.

WHAT IS BODY IMAGE? YOUR BODY IMAGE IS HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT AND SEE YOUR BODY. YOUR BODY IS LIKELY TO CHANGE A LOT OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS. SOMETIMES YOU MAY NOT FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE ABOUT ALL THE CHANGES. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER IF YOU CAN FOCUS ON WHAT YOU DO LIKE ABOUT YOUR BODY.

EATING DISORDERS AN EATING DISORDER IS A DISEASE THAT INVOLVES AN UNHEALTHY CONCERN WITH ONE’S BODY WEIGHT AND SHAPE. THEY ARE CAUSED BY MANY EMOTIONAL FACTORS AND GRADUALLY DEVELOP FROM UNHEALTHY EATING BEHAVIORS. EATING DISORDERS CAN AFFECT ANYONE.

EATING DISORDERS ANOREXIA NERVOSA INVOLVES SELF-STARVATION, AN UNHEALTHY BODY IMAGE, AND EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS. BULIMIA NERVOSA INVOLVES EATING A LARGE AMOUNT OF FOOD AND THEN TRYING TO REMOVE THAT FOOD. VOMITING, TAKING LAXATIVES OR DIURETICS, OVER-EXERCISING THERE IS AN INTENSE FEAR OF BEING FAT AND GAINING WEIGHT. THEY FEEL ASHAMED OF HOW MUCH THEY EAT. EDNOS -
