5 Anorexia Nervosa- An eating disorder in which an irrational fear of weight gain leads people to starve themselves

7 Metabolism- The process by which the body breaks down substances and gets energy from food.

8 Body Mass Index- (BMI) A measure of body weight relative to height.

9 Overweight- Heavier than the standard weight range for your height by 10%.

10 Obese- Having an excess of body weight of more than 20% of BMI standards.

11 Underweight- Below the standard weight range for your height

12 Binge Eating Disorder- An eating disorder in which people overeat compulsively

13  Insulin- a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.

14  Type 1 diabetes -usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin.

15  Type 2 Diabetes -is the most common form of diabetes. Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

16  In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin.

17  Anyone can get type 2 diabetes. However, those at highest risk for the disease are those who are obese or overweight.  In addition, people who smoke, have inactive lifestyles, or have certain dietary patterns have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
