βeta glucan Effective Natural Immune System Activation Nanocon nd International Conference October 12 th – 14 th 2010

Causes of immune deficiency: - malnutrition, life style - radiation (long distance flights) - aging - environment - medications (antibiotics, glucocorticoids), and therapies (chemotherapy, radiotherapy) Immunodeficiency (or immune deficiency) is a state in which the immune system's ability to fight infectious diseases and other body threats (allergies, cancer, etc.) is compromised or entirely absent. Primary immunodeficiency – rare cases of hereditary disorders Secondary immunodeficiency – also called acquired, caused by: - long lasting physical and psychical stress

CR3 is part of immune cell wall and its purpose is to bind the immune cell to the pathogen via „adhesion site“. V.Vetvicka, B.P. Thornton, G.D. Ross, Soluble beta-glucan polysaccharide binding to the lectin site of neutrophil or natural killer cell complement receptor type 3 (CD11b/CD18) generates a primed state of the receptor capable of mediating cytotoxicity of iC3b-opsonized target cells. J. Clin. Invest., 1996, 98,

In the presence of βeta glucan the binding is doubled. iC3b is an inaktivated C3b, ligand for CR3 receptor. βeta glucan binds to the lectin site, which is present on the α-chain of the CR3 receptor. Lectins are a group of sugar binding proteins.

Increased activation results into increase fagocytic activity of immune cell. Result of this activity is release of harmfull substances like hydrogen peroxide and oxygen radical. These then turn into hypochlorous acid, hydroxide radical and singlet oxygen radical. These are substances toxic to the pathogen, they break up its cell wall, inner structures and DNA. This leads into destruction of the pathogen and its subsequent removal.

Chlorine-oxide radicals have impact on pathogen, damage its cell wall, inner structures and destroy DNA. This ultimately leads to destruction, death and removal of the pathogen.

Recommended use of Beta glucan: - weakened immune system - as supporting medication during cancer treatment - allergies, auto-immune diseases - chronic infectious gynaecological diseases (mycosis, herpes, HPV, E. coli) - ulcers - skin damage, burns, eczema

Glucose – the only structural component, in linear chain bound in 1,3 positions. Beta-1,3/1,6-D-glucan The most effective form of beta glucan is the one with side chains in 1,6 positions What is beta glucan?

Source of βeta glucan is Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus, Hiratake) produced under standards. Why to go organic? The Oyster mushroom produced under organic standards is free of pesticides herbicdes fertilizers heavy metals Sources of βeta glucan are medicinal mushrooms (shiitake, maitake, reishi, hiratake), oat and other cereals, yeast. ORGANIC Issued organic certificate no. SK-2005/336. Sources of βeta glucan

Oyster mushroom Extraction Drying Beta-1,3/1,6-glucan Purification Grinding 100 kg 60 kg 30 kg 15 kg 1 kg βeta glucan isolation

Competitive advantages of Natures Beta Glucan - high purity up to 95% - micronisation down to particle size of 5μm (average) for higher bioavailability - price advantage – Natures Ltd. is direct producer of beta glucan - optimal dosage for various health problem levels: 24 mg, 120 mg, 500 mg - for dermal application Beta Glucan 2% Gel - for children 30/60mg Children´s syrup and 10/20mg Glukanky - no known toxicity and side effects, no addiction

Manufacturing of pharmaceutical forms: - in pharmaceutical quality - in GMP system Manufacturing of Beta glucan: - meets the requirements of Food Codex (Codex Alimentarius) - meets the requirement of HACCP system Quality management system ISO 9001:2000 Micronization of Beta glucan down to particle size of 5 micrometers (average)

Current Research: Submicronisation and nanonisation of beta glucan. Supported by APVV (Slovak Research and Development Agency). Goal: application into biologically more effective forms. Co-operation between Slovak Technical University, FUDAN University Shanghai, BIONT a.s. Bratislava.

Organic/Bio certificate issued on 03/12/2009
