Storyboarding Mrs. Wilson Sports & Entertainment Marketing

Storyboarding? Storyboarding is the process of producing sketches of the shots of your script. The end result looks like book of your film (without the speech bubbles).

A storyboard helps you: Define the parameters of a story within available resources and time Organize and focus a story Figure out what medium to use for each part of the story

Why do it? It helps you think about how your film is going to look. You can work faster on set and as pictures communicate better than words it will allow your camera crew and producers to foresee problems Even the actors will get a feel of what they are going to be shooting!

So I need to be an artist? Well you can be, but looking at storyboards by Hitchcock or Spielberg you have to admit that they can't draw. There are professional storyboard artists that can give you results that look better than the final film. However its a good idea to bash them out yourself, it allows you to experiment quickly and cheaply, testing out different versions of how a scene may look and play on camera.

Video Editing with iMovie iMovie is a simple, easy to use video editing program that comes free with the Apple operating system (it has no Windows PC version).

Connecting the Video Camera to the Computer To capture video off your digital camera you need to connect it to the computer with a cable - usually Firewire. It also is used by Windows PC computers to do video capture.

Starting iMovie Launch iMovie by clicking on the iMovie icon in the Apple menu. Click on Create Project.

The screen is divided into three areas: the ShelfAt the top right is the Shelf. This is where you'll store clips you've captured from your video camera. At the bottom is the Viewer. This is where you'll arrange your clips into a movie by dragging them down from the Shelf area, and then edit them. The viewer has two different display modes: –Clip Viewer, which displays icons of each clip. –Timeline Viewer, which displays tiny icons of the clips on a horizontal bar that shows you the video and audio tracks for each clip (this is the mode you'll generally use for editing your clips.

Last area… At the top left is the Monitor. –This is where you use control buttons that resemble the controls on a standard VCR to play your video clips, whether they're still on the camera, captured onto the Shelf area or dragged into the Viewer area.

Capturing Video To capture a video clip - that is to download a segment of the video you have on your mini-DV tape onto the computer and store it there - you first should use the control buttons to go to a point about three seconds before the beginning of the video segment you want to capture and stop there htmlhttp:// 417.htmlhttp:// 417.htmlhttp:// 417.html

Creating a Movie After you've captured the video clips you want to use, you need to assemble them into a movie. To do that, drag one of the clips from the Shelf area in the upper right of your screen down to the Viewer area. The icon for the clip will appear in the Viewer.
