Academic Year 2014/15 Attendance Requirements End of Module Assessment & Continuous Assessment Self-Discipline & Learning Attitude Briefing Content

Lectures You should attend the lectures punctually and participate fully in the learning process.

Tutorials Smaller classes or group sizes. Examples, exercises and problem- solving. In-class assignments/tests.

Laboratory/Workshop Focus on laboratory work and workshop practice. Hands-on approach, problem-solving & vocational training. For you to learn good practical, trade- specific and professional skills.

Attendance Requirements General Academic Regulations (GAR): Absence of 4 consecutive weeks without a valid reason can lead to de-registration. 70% or above of Attendance for each module; otherwise not allowed to undertake End-of- Module Assessment; and not awarded a Module Mark/Grade Practical Training and Laboratory sessions are compulsory

Lab Attendance Requirements Late arrival for Laboratory would result in losing marks of Lab report For late arrivals of over half of the Laboratory session, zero mark of Lab report is registered. If student misses the Laboratory, there will be no make-up sessions unless proper reason supported with valid evidence

Absent from Class or Examination Inform program leader in advance with evidence, eg, doctor certificate In case of emergency situation, you should inform program leaders no later than one week with evidence.

Assessment Second attempt (supplementary examination) is normally not allowed if student fails or absent in Examination. Under rare situation such as the factor beyond a student’s control, the reassessment is allowed; the actual mark obtained in the reassessment of the component concerned will be used in the calculation of the module mark/grade. The supporting document must be provided within one week after examination

Assessment Student has to pass the examination to pass the module concerned. Normally no second attempt is allowed if student fails or absent from an individual component in Continuous Assessment (CA) and/or End-of- module Assessment (Exam).

Practical Training Assessment Fail, Pass or Pass with Merit (M) M can be awarded if module grade achieves grade “A” or module marks above 70%

Withdrawal from a program A student whose Cumulative Grade Point Average is below 1.0 recorded by the end of Academic Year will be withdrawn. Student should finish the HD study within the Maximum Registration Period; otherwise he will be withdrawn.

Module Selection For modules with pre-requisite requirement, student must satisfy the requirements in the relevant syllabus before taking the modules concerned. Registration for elective modules is subject to availability of places and meeting the pre- requisite requirements, if any If student fails in a elective module, he has the freedom to take other elective module.

Study Load In each semester, student should not normally take more than 90 total credit values. However, if student gets a CGPA above 3.3, he can void the rule.

Class Discipline Student is not allowed to affect or distract the attention of others during a lecture, class teaching, tutoring session or laboratory work; otherwise he might be asked to leave the class. For example, playing computer games, eating, listening to music are not allowed. Student should always behave in polite to teachers and classmates.

Communication Student should check student account at least once per day. Student should check at least once per day, especially for time table update. Student should check department web site regularly, especially for Practical training schedule and grouping

Penalty for Late Submission of Course Work 10% of the mark will be deducted per day for submission after the due date. Late course work will not be accepted later than one week after the due date. The mark for that course work sub- component will be 0.

Exemption Policy DSE and A-level students cannot apply for exemption from any vocational modules of HDAME.
