Presentation transcript:

This song reflects the times of war during the Vietnam War. Written by Robin Moore and Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler, Ballad of the Green Berets quickly became a hit topping the charts. January 30, 1966 Ballad of the Green Berets was debuted on The Ed Sullivan Show. For five weeks Ballad of the Green Berets, a patriotic song about an elite force in the U.S. Army, was at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. It also reached popularity as a crossover smash on the Easy Listening chart at No. 1 and No. 2 on the Billboard’s Country survey. Lyrics to this song were written in honor of the first native Hawaiian who died in Vietnam, Green Beret James Gabriel Jr. Fighting soldiers from the sky Fearless men who jump and die Men who mean just what they say The brave men of the Green Beret Silver wings upon their chest These are men, America's best One hundred men will test today But only three win the Green Beret Trained to live off nature's land Trained in combat, hand-to-hand Men who fight by night and day Courage peak from the Green Berets Silver wings upon their chest These are men, America's best One hundred men will test today But only three win the Green Beret Back at home a young wife waits Her Green Beret has met his fate He has died for those oppressed Leaving her his last request Put silver wings on my son's chest Make him one of America's best He'll be a man they'll test one day Have him win the Green Beret.

Valley of the Dolls Finding employment in Hit the Sky, a Broadway musical, Anna Welles moves to New York City form Lawrenceville, Massachusetts. Here she meets Neely O’ Hara, (Ethel Agnes O’Neill). She is a vaudeville star who lives in the same building as her. She recommends her for a role in the show’s chorus. She also meets a showgirl named Jennifer North who is regarded for her beauty and not her talent is in the play as well. They soon become best friends. Through the next twenty years all of the women start careers which bring them to fame and eventually self-destruction. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Jacqueline Susann was a lazy but clever student. She scored a 140 her IQ test, the highest in her class. This made her mother believe that Susann would some day become a wonderful writer. Susann however wanted to become and actress. Shown in her books she had a hard-to- please mother as well as a roguish father. By the time she had entered high school she was a wild child using drugs and partying. Sadly she did not embark on a journey to college and went in 1936 to take on a career in acting. The Book The Author
