How did you feel when I took away your raisins? I would hope not good! This is how the colonists felt when the king took their money for taxes! It isnt fair!

Colonists were NOT happy with the new acts… Wait a second… an act? This does not seem like the correct word! Another term for act would be a rule or law that was enforced against the colonists.

The Sugar Act 1764 there was already a sugar act of 1733, but it was about to expire so Britain issued the new Sugar Act in addition to sugar and molasses, coffee, wine, herbs, silks, and linens were also to be taxed restricted the amount of lumber and iron the colonies could export and gave the British navy more power to enforce the law. the act had many serious economic effects on colonial merchants.

The Stamp Act 1765 The British parliament passed a law stating that all legal documents, newspapers, contracts, and even playing cards were to be taxed. Once the tax was paid by the colonies, each item would receive an official gov’t stamp or seal, proving payment was received.

Charles Townshend became head of the British Parliament. He pressed Parliament to impose new taxes on the colonists on goods such as lead, paper, glass, paint, and tea. Colonists objected to these acts by refusing to buy tea and by making their own paper. Many colonial homes even went unpainted in protest. Townshend Act- 1767
