Real Trust is Costly We often want to have valuable things without any effort.

Real Trust is Costly We often want to have valuable things without any effort. As a result many settle for “bargains” that are nothing more than mirages.

Real Trust is Costly What is trust? (a) Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing. (b) Custody; care. (c) The condition and resulting obligation of having confidence placed in one: violated a public trust. (d) One in which confidence is placed.

Real Trust is Costly There were many who wanted Jesus to trust Him because of their words. (Jn 2:23-25)

Real Trust is Costly John 2:23-25 - Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. 24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, 25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.

Real Trust is Costly We need to see where we really place our trust. Some have found “bargains” that will fail in the day of testing. (Ex. Dad’s new car) (Jer 2:13; 14:3)

Real Trust is Costly Jeremiah 2:13 - “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Real Trust is Costly Jeremiah 14:3 - Their nobles have sent their lads for water; They went to the cisterns and found no water. They returned with their vessels empty; They were ashamed and confounded And covered their heads.

Real Trust is Costly We need to examine if others can really trust us. We must open our eyes!

Our God is worthy of our trust God wants us to know this and then actually place our trust in Him. (Psa 36:7)

Our God is worthy of our trust Psalm 36:7 - How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.

Our God is worthy of our trust One of the things that breaks our hearts down to trust God is His great goodness.

Our God is worthy of our trust One of the things that breaks our hearts down to trust God is His great goodness. The world laughs at us and would convince us that there is a “better way.”

Our God is worthy of our trust The king of Assyria boldly said this. (2 Kgs 19:10-12)

Our God is worthy of our trust 2 Kings 19:10-12 - “Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying: ‘Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, “Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.” 11 Look! You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by utterly destroying them; and shall you be delivered?

Our God is worthy of our trust 12 Have the gods of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar?

Our God is worthy of our trust He learned a lesson but never learned to trust the true God. (2 Kgs 19:35-37)

Our God is worthy of our trust 2 Kings 19:35-37 - And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead. 36So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away, returned home, and remained at Nineveh.

Our God is worthy of our trust 37 Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the temple of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

Our God is worthy of our trust Notice where Sennacherib died! (2 Chron 32:20-21)

Our God is worthy of our trust 2 Chronicles 32:20-21 - Now because of this King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried out to heaven. 21Then the Lord sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned shamefaced to his own land. And when he had gone into the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.

Our God is worthy of our trust We are blessed if we can build such a trust. We then will have a shield that nothing can break down! (2 Sam 22:3-4, 31)

Our God is worthy of our trust 2 Samuel 22:3-4 - The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. 4 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

Our God is worthy of our trust 2 Samuel 22:31 - As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

Our God is worthy of our trust There is a big difference between a passing trust and a real one.

Our God is worthy of our trust There is a big difference between a passing trust and a real one. Peter knew what real trust in the Lord meant. (Mk 10:28-31)

Our God is worthy of our trust Mark 10:28-31 - Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” 29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s,

Our God is worthy of our trust 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

Our God is worthy of our trust If you trust in the Lord that trust will be tested. (Rom 5:3-5)

Our God is worthy of our trust Romans 5:3-5 - And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Our God is worthy of our trust It is “easier” to the worldly to talk about trusting God and in reality trust something else that does not test you.

Our God is worthy of our trust It is “easier” to the worldly to talk about trusting God and in reality trust something else that does not test you. Our God will tell you the truth and move you to make needed changes. Many find this too demanding and seek a more convenient time. (Acts 24:25-26)

Our God is worthy of our trust Acts 24:25-26 - Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.” 26 Meanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore he sent for him more often and conversed with him.

Our God is worthy of our trust Notice the elements that go along with trusting God.

Our God is worthy of our trust Notice the elements that go along with trusting God. Where did Felix place his trust?

Where do we place our trust? Satan has many “bargains” to make you feel secure.

Where do we place our trust? Satan has many “bargains” to make you feel secure. Money seems to provide security. (Psa 49:6-9; Mk 10:24-25)

Where do we place our trust? Psalm 49:6-9 - Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches, 7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him— 8 For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever— 9 That he should continue to live eternally, And not see the Pit.

Where do we place our trust? Mark 10:24-25 - And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Where do we place our trust? Military power and skill. (Psa 20:7-8; 44:6-7)

Where do we place our trust? Psalm 20:7-8 - Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God. 8 They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright.

Where do we place our trust? Psalm 44:6-7 - For I will not trust in my bow, Nor shall my sword save me. 7 But You have saved us from our enemies, And have put to shame those who hated us.

Where do we place our trust? Powerful political and business leaders. (Psa 146:3-4)

Where do we place our trust? Psalm 146:3-4 - Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. 4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.

Where do we place our trust? Ones own heart. (Prov 28:26)

Where do we place our trust? Proverbs 28:26 - He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered.

Where do we place our trust? Where you place you trust will also affect your trustworthiness.

Where do we place our trust? Where you place you trust will also affect your trustworthiness. Many placed trust in idols. (Psa 135:14-18)

Where do we place our trust? Psalm 135:14-18 - For the Lord will judge His people, And He will have compassion on His servants. 15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. 16 They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; 17 They have ears, but they do not hear; Nor is there any breath in their mouths.

Where do we place our trust? 18 Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.

Where do we place our trust? There was a social “acceptance” and an “easy” morality that went along with this.

Where do we place our trust? There was a social “acceptance” and an “easy” morality that went along with this. Could an idol really help them?

Where do we place our trust? There was a social “acceptance” and an “easy” morality that went along with this. Could an idol really help them? These people became like them! They too were untrustworthy. (Ex. The bar scene: “Where everyone is your friend”????)

Am I a trustworthy person? Where do I place my trust? (Prov 3:5; 11:28)

Am I a trustworthy person? Proverbs 3:5 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

Am I a trustworthy person? Proverbs 11:28 - He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.

Am I a trustworthy person? I will have a set of priorities and affections that surround it. (Ex. Football)

Am I a trustworthy person? We become like that we trust.

Am I a trustworthy person? We become like that we trust. Trusting God will make us willing servants of others.

Am I a trustworthy person? We become like that we trust. Trusting God will make us willing servants of others. If we trust in Jesus then we will want the mind of Jesus. (Phil 2:1-5)

Am I a trustworthy person? Philippians 2:1-5 - Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Am I a trustworthy person? 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

Am I a trustworthy person? Trusting in another takes time, knowledge and interaction.

Am I a trustworthy person? Trusting in another takes time, knowledge and interaction. When you come to Jesus He will expose your heart. This is painful but needed.

Am I a trustworthy person? Many confess Jesus but do not open their hearts. They really trust something else.

Am I a trustworthy person? Many confess Jesus but do not open their hearts. They really trust something else. Consider the attitude and actions of Timothy. (Phil 2:19-22)

Am I a trustworthy person? Philippians 2:19-22 - But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. 20 For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. 21For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. 22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.

Am I a trustworthy person? Trustworthy people become concerned to know others!

Am I a trustworthy person? Trustworthy people become concerned to know others! Trustworthy people will make changes in order to help others. (1 Cor 9:19-23)

Am I a trustworthy person? 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 - For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law;

Am I a trustworthy person? 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.

Am I a trustworthy person? Many say they trust God but have their own clique that they care about. All others better stay out!

Am I a trustworthy person? Many say they trust God but have their own clique that they care about. All others better stay out! When we have God’s love in our lives then we have a consistent attitude and action towards others. (1 Cor 13:4-6)

Am I a trustworthy person? 1 Corinthians 13:4-6 - Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

Am I a trustworthy person? We are patient and kind.
