Foundations Who is Jesus?

Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death

What kind of a Savior do we need? One who removes the curse of sin (death)

Matthew 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

What kind of a Savior do we need? One who could remove the curse of sin (death) One who gives us perfection (holiness) as a gift

Galatians 4:4-5 Hebrews 2:14 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil.

Therefore, the Savior we needed had to be 1.Man in order to live under the Law in our place and die in our place

Psalm 49:7-8 No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him--the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough.

Therefore, the Savior we needed had to be 1.Man in order to live under the Law in our place and die in our place 2.But he also had to be God for his perfect life and his sacrificial death to count for everyone

John 1:1 1 John 5:20 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true--even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Who is Jesus Christ? The Bible calls him God

Hebrews 13:8 John 21:17 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep.

Who is Jesus Christ? The Bible calls him God; teaches that he has the characteristics of God;

John 2:11 This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

Who is Jesus Christ? 1.The Bible calls him God; tells that he has the characteristics of God; shows that he does the works of God (miracles);

John 5:23 … that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

Who is Jesus Christ? The Bible calls him God; tells that he has the characteristics of God; shows that he does the works of God (miracles); Therefore, JESUS CHRIST IS GOD

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

Who is Jesus Christ? The Bible calls him man;

Hebrews 2:14-16 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil-- and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants.

Who is Jesus Christ? The Bible calls him man; tells that he has the characteristics of man; Therefore JESUS CHRIST IS ALSO MAN.

Who is Jesus Christ? 3.Jesus Christ is the Savior we all need, both God and man.

Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Our Savior ’ s Name Jesus: Savior

Matthew 1:23 "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us."

Our Savior ’ s Name Jesus: Savior Immanuel: God with us

Luke 2:11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

Our Savior ’ s Name Jesus: Savior Immanuel: God with us LORD (Jehovah): Name for God meaning, “ I AM ”

John 1:41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ).

Our Savior ’ s Name Jesus: Savior Immanuel: God with us LORD (Jehovah):Name for God meaning, “ I AM ” Christ: Anointed one Messiah: Anointed one

Acts 10:38 … God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

Our Savior ’ s Office As the Christ, or Messiah (Anointed One), he was anointed with the Holy Spirit to serve as our: High Priest Prophet King

Hebrews 7:25-27 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest meets our need--one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

Our Savior ’ s Office 1.As our High Priest, Jesus … sacrificed himself once and for all our sins. intercedes for us as our Mediator (Go- between)

Hebrews 1:1-2 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

Our Savior ’ s Office As our Prophet, Jesus … spoke God ’ s word in person while on earth.

Luke 10:16 "He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

Our Savior ’ s Office As our Prophet, Jesus … spoke God ’ s word in person while on earth. speaks God ’ s word through Christians today.

Romans 14:8-9 If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

Our Savior ’ s Office As our King, Jesus … rules our hearts and lives through his word.

Ephesians 1:20-23 … which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Our Savior ’ s Office As our King, Jesus … rules our hearts and lives through his word. rules everything for our eternal good.
