Mayview Regional Service Area Community Inpatient Utilization July 2006 – January

Findings Tracking since July 2006 For the region, inpatient admissions, as well as readmissions, per month have slowly decreased over the period. For the region, Average Length of Stay has trended upward. The Median Length of Stay, however, usually falls within five to six days. 2 * Lawrence County is no longer included in the analysis.

Inpatient Admissions For the region, there continues to be a downward trend. 3

Inpatient Admissions Admissions per month continue to trend downward. 4

Inpatient Admissions Admissions continue to vary widely; however, a downward trend is apparent in recent months. 5

Inpatient Admissions Admissions have increased towards the trendline after of a low of 8 in November

Inpatient Admissions Admissions are trending slightly downward. 7

Inpatient Admission Rate Allegheny shows the highest admission rate, with an average of 6.85 admissions per 1000 enrollees vs in the other counties. 8

Inpatient Length of Stay For the region, ALOS is trending slightly upward. MLOS usually exists between five and six days. 9

Inpatient Length of Stay ALOS is trending upward MLOS fluctuates between six and seven days. 10

Inpatient Length of Stay ALOS per month has increased approximately one day over the entire period. However, in January there was a discharge of an extremely long stay. 11

Inpatient Length of Stay ALOS continues to fluctuate. 12

Inpatient Length of Stay ALOS is trending very slightly upward, but the trend is still within one day for the entire period. 13

Inpatient Readmissions Readmission rates for all categories are trending downward. The “8 to 30 day” readmission rate is the most consistent over time. 14
