How can you wrap up your answer? In my opinion, the Grays did not feel like Alexis, their dog, was “just like a member of the family” because Mr. Gray hit her and sold her puppy. In the story, Mr. Gray struck Alexis with his cane. In the second paragraph on page 5, it says Mr. Gray sold Alexis’s puppy.

In this lesson you will learn how to wrap up your answer by writing your reasons.

Let’s Review Analyze the Prompt Prepare the Case Judge the Evidence Find the Evidence Finalize the Case

A Common Mistake Writing a conclusion that only summarizes what you already said Wait! You already told me that. Let’s just review what happened.

Core Lesson Ask yourself, “Why did I choose this answer?” 1 2 Write a sentence to explain. 3 Ask yourself, “Is my answer complete?”

Ask yourself, “Why did I choose this answer?” 1 There was plenty of evidence that the Grays loved Alexis and treated her well, but in the end, I just don’t think family members should have to worry about being beaten or having their children given away.

Core Lesson Write a sentence to explain. 2 Even though the Grays treated Alexis kindly, a member of a family should never have to worry about being beaten or sold. Even though the Grays treated Alexis kindly, a member of a family should never have to worry about being beaten or sold.

Core Lesson 3 In my opinion, the Grays did not feel like Alexis, their dog, was “just like a member of the family” because Mr. Gray hit her and sold her puppy. In the story, Mr. Gray struck Alexis with his cane. In the second paragraph on page 5, it says Mr. Gray sold Alexis’s puppy. In the second paragraph on page 5, it says Mr. Gray sold Alexis’s puppy. Even though the Grays treated Alexis kindly, a member of a family should never have to worry about being beaten or sold. Gives opinion? Supported by evidence? Tells reasons?

Core Lesson Ask yourself, “Why did I choose this answer?” 1 2 Write a sentence to explain. 3 Ask yourself, “Is my answer complete?”

In this lesson you have learned how to wrap up your answer by telling your reasons.

Guided Practice Write a conclusion to this response by giving a reason. I think Alexis was sad that her puppy went away because she was scared and could not eat. On page five in the third paragraph, the author tells us that Alexis felt sick due to her fear for her puppy. The story, “A Dog’s Tale,” also says that this fear is so bad that she cannot eat.

Extension Activities The Grays lived in a big, beautiful house and employed a nurse for their baby, so I know they were wealthy. When Alexis, the dog, moves into the house, she describes it as “a fine great house.” The narrator also talks about the nurse hired to care for the baby on pages two through five. Write a conclusion to this response by giving a reason.

Extension Activities I think the main character in Cinderella was selfish because she wanted more and more from her fairy godmother. Even after the godmother gave her a coach and beautiful gown, Cinderella had the nerve to ask for glass slippers. The famous folktale also tells us that transportation and finery for one ball wasn’t enough. Cinderella had to go to three! Write a conclusion to this response by giving a reason.

Let’s Review Quick Quiz Alexis proved that she was brave by going through flames, grabbing the baby from her crib, and pulling her to safety. The last paragraph on page 2 explains this sequence of events. The story also describes how Alexis falls to the floor and drags the baby through thick smoke. Write a conclusion to this response by giving a reason.
