Teaching School National Induction – Workshop 2 How to ensure impact and success as a teaching school North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership

North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership – Impact measures Impact measures consist of a variety of both qualitative and quantative, taking into account existing data from the local authority, but also having the opportunity to pave the way for new, innovative and pertinent data, which has an impact on the Big 6. Importance of drawing on objective external reports showing impact on schools/settings such as Ofsted. Ofsted reports can cite the impact of using SLEs, LLEs, NLEs to increase school improvement. Crucial that impact measures are consistent and evaluated using a ‘So what?’ approach, i.e. As a result of…the impact is… - links to evaluative writing style/approach. Teaching School Action Plan and KPI’s with impact on Big 6. Action Plan and reports to DfE/Governors and Teaching School Strategic Group who monitor impact.

Success criteria for the North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership Determined our success criteria through the use of the National College’s KPIs, but also felt confident to add to these as appropriate to the needs of our teaching school alliance, which ensures that we are able to capture the very best information. Links to ITT, CPD opportunities, links to leadership and NQT programmes, deployment of SLEs, LLEs and links to NLEs. Emphasis on school to school support through research opportunities. Key role in research bids. Extend Teaching School Partnership and grow the alliance of school/settings to support KPI’s.

Business Model for the North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership CPD and School to School support are ways we are using to formulate our Business Model. In Year 1 ( ) we have generated £11,000 through CPD courses (early years and outstanding teacher series) and school to school support. Aim to extend this in Year 2 and Year 3. Aim to grow our SLEs as another mechanism of income generation for the Teaching School and schools in the partnership/alliance. Bidding for funds for various research opportunities, but being selective. ITT/School Direct another source of funding to add to the Business model.

Reviewing/Evaluating the North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership Action Plan We constantly review and evaluate our action plan through our Teaching School strategic group meetings – importance of all partners involved. Otherwise, all lands on the lead school to report on. We use a similar philosophy to school/centre development plan re plan, do and review.

North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership - 5 top tips for ensuring success and impact 1.Build partnerships on trust – opportunity to work with like minded colleagues. Build on and share expertise. 2.Build in administration support/infrastructure from the onset. Examine the capacity/infrastructure in your own school to cope with additional workload. 3.Impact re quality CPD and follow up on impact. 4.Build small and grow with quality – don’t try to do everything at once. Set up a peer review system for support and challenge. 5.Link with a range of high quality practitioners from schools/settings to draw from and develop re strategic/alliance of schools – opportunity for quality system leadership.

How we have shared and disseminated our work… 1.CPD through courses with a focus on early years, plus KS1/KS2. 2.SLE for early years and family support. Challenging the criteria for SLE with a view to enable staff from children’s centres and private nurseries to apply through ‘What makes great pedagogy’ research. 3.Bespoke 1.1 support to schools/Heads on request. 4.Opportunities for staff to share their practice with colleagues through learning walks, observation of sessions, at conferences and workshops. 5.Teaching School local meetings and national work. 6.Newsletter, s, website and Twitter. 7.Early Years Hub research and links to Nursery Schools network.

Finally… The North Liverpool Teaching School Partnership has gained success in the first year through a strong partnership model that has a honest approach. Mutual respect given by the leaders, with opportunities for their staff teams. Overall impact seen by governors and Heads on staff and children. The opportunities are endless when developing a system that is led by the system. The work is exhaustive but rewarding, so enjoy!
