Repoussé Is the French word meaning “to push”. It is the technique of decorating the surface of metal by using tools to raise or indent it (tooling and chasing). Around this mirror is a repousséd frame. Indian Brass Mandala

Gary Dadyan, a Russian artist is using various tools associated with repoussé. Can you list some of them and think of anything else you might be able to use?

The art of Repoussé is a ancient form of art. Mycenaean Repoussé of Agamemnon’s Funeral Mask and one of his gold cups. Both are over 3000 years old!

This man is working on a very detailed repoussé. Indian copper plaque that depicts the life of Buddha.
