God’s Support, Purpose & Love- (8:26-39) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man God’s Support, Purpose & Love- (8:26-39) The Gospel Provides Encouragement - For Every Human Need – (26,27) Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) Security - Through Understanding God’s Powerful Love – (31-39)

Encouragement In Every Human Need – (26,27) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Encouragement In Every Human Need – (26,27) Romans 8:26-27 (NKJV) 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Now for verse 26 Likewise: Creation groans . . . Christians groan . . . The Holy Spirit groans! The Holy Spirit grieves over the sufferings and persecutions faced by Christians. the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, = A lack of understanding regarding the overall plan and purpose of our sufferings . . . We may ask that the sufferings be removed, but God, through the Spirit knows that “our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,” 2 Corinthians 4:17 1 Peter 1:6-9 (NKJV) In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, [7] that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, [8] whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, [9] receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls. but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Intercession is NOT mediation! 1 Tim. 2:5 (NKJV) For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, We are to pray on the behalf of others . . . (no one can pray through us, but they can ask us to pray for them) 1 Tim. 2:1-3 (NKJV) Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, [2] for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. [3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, We do not see the whole picture . . The Holy Spirit does . . . We see the difficulties. We must trust that if we walk according to the Spirit . . . Despite the persecutions, sufferings and earthly discomforts, We will be victorious in the end. We have committed our souls to the one who knows all things. 8:27 (NKJV) Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Communication between Deity? - 1 Cor. 2:10 (NKJV) But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. . . . Distinct personalities in the Godhead. He, (The Holy Spirit) makes intercession for the saints!

Encouragement In Every Human Need – (26,27) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Encouragement In Every Human Need – (26,27) Likewise The Spirit Also Helps: (26) Creation groans (22) . . . Christians groan (23) . . . The Spirit groans (26) – Hope helps - the Spirit also helps our weaknesses (26) - We do not see the whole picture . . The Holy Spirit does . . . We see the difficulties. Communication between Deity (27) - 1 Cor. 2:10 Intercession NOT mediation! 1 Tim. 2:1-3,5 – (Not done to us or in us but for us)

Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) Romans 8:28-30 (NKJV) 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. Now for verse 26 Likewise: Creation groans . . . Christians groan . . . The Holy Spirit groans! The Holy Spirit grieves over the sufferings and persecutions faced by Christians. the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, = A lack of understanding regarding the overall plan and purpose of our sufferings . . . Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) All things work together for good - (28) The things God provides for His children – For those who love God - (28) – Not the few loved by God – 1 Cor. 2:9; James 1:12; 2:5. Called according to His purpose - (28) - Called by the Gospel –John 6:44,45; 1 Cor. 1:9; 2 Thes. 2:13,14; 2 Tim. 1:9

Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) For whom He foreknew - (29) To know in advance – God knew that there would be “many brethren” gathered to Him in Christ – (Eph. 1:1-14; 2 Thes. 2:13,14) He also predestined - (29) – “The only thing predestinated, or foreordained, is that those who love God as revealed in Christ shall become Christlike in life, and like Christ in eternity. This is the only decree in the passage.”— P.N.T. – (Eph. 1:5,11; 1 Pet. 1:2)

Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) God predestined that those who love God will be conformed to the likeness of Christ – (Rom. 12:1,2) Those in Christ receive the gospel call – (Eph. 1:13,14) Those who receive the gospel call are justified – (Rom 6:16-18) Those who are justified are glorified – the purpose of God 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. (Rom. 1:16,17; 10:14-17)

Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Confidence - Through Understanding God’s Eternal Purpose – (28-30) The obedient - 8:1,2 Those who SET their mind on the things of the Spirit – 8:5-7 Those who mortify the deeds of the body – 8:13 Those who are led by the Spirit – 8:14 Those who suffer with Him – 8:17 Those who persevere – 8:17 The disobedient - 8:1,2 Those who SET their mind on the flesh will DIE - 8:5-7,13 Those who walk in the flesh – Rom. 8:1; Gal 5:16-21; 2 Tim 2:11-13 The Christian who has fallen from grace – Gal 5:4 God Is Faithful! Who Are Those To Be Glorified?

Consequences of Unconditional Election & The Calvinistic View of Predestination God Does NOT Redemptively Love All Men - The large majority of men are born “foreordained” to eternal destruction – 2 Pet 3:9; 1 Tim 2:4 God Is A Respecter Of Persons – chooses one sinner and condemns many others arbitrarily and capriciously - Acts 10:34 God Is Unjust – Condemns men for what He predetermined that they do, without them having libertarian freewill to do otherwise - 2 Cor. 5:10 Everything Is Unchangeably Foreordained – EVEN EVERY SIN! “God is the first cause of ALL EVIL!”

Security - Through Understanding God’s Powerful Love – (31-39) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Security - Through Understanding God’s Powerful Love – (31-39) Romans 8:31-39 (NKJV) 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Security - Through Understanding God’s Powerful Love – (31-39) Lesson 9 – Romans 8:26-39 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Security - Through Understanding God’s Powerful Love – (31-39) Romans 8:31-39 (NKJV) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Now for verse 26 Likewise: Creation groans . . . Christians groan . . . The Holy Spirit groans!
