1.What does it mean to skedaddle? Why might Clay and Calvin have to skedaddle? Skedaddle means to flee in a panic. (2nd part is your opinion.)

2.How long had it been since Gerald was last there? Where did Calvin say he may have been? Gerald has not been there in 3 days. Calvin said he was probably in court defending his good deed of bringing breakfast to people and trying to get his van back.

3.What did Buddy say they needed to help keep warm? What would they use to make it? Buddy said they needed a fire to help keep them warm. They would use a metal barrel, wood, and big stones to do so.

4. Why did Calvin say they need to have a conference? What did they discuss? They needed to discuss what they are going to do with Clay. They are going to take him to some authority; people who will find a home for him.

5. How much money did Buddy redeem his cans for? He got $3.05.

6.What did Buddy buy with the money at the deli? He bought hot dogs and potato salad at the deli.

7.What did the lady give Buddy, Calvin, and Clay in return for warmth? She gave them an apple pie that “fell off the truck.”

8.What were the young men holding? What were they chanting? They were holding baseball bats and chains. They were chanting, “Monkey Island, Monkey Island, where the monkeys live.”

9.Who is missing at the end of Chapter 6? Calvin is missing.
