Orel Hershiser’s early life Orel Hershiser has a nickname as “Bulldog”. Orel Hershiser was born on September 16, 1958 in Buffalo, New York. He went to Cherry Hill High School and Posted a 6-2 record as a junior. He went to Bowling Green State University for high school. He was a star pitcher on their School team. He played ice hockey with the Don Mills Flyers of the Greater Toronto Hockey League. He got attention of scouts at Bowling Green State University. Orel was chosen by the L.A. Dodgers in the 17 th round of the 1979 amateur draft.

Major Highlights Orel was chosen in the 17 th round amateur draft. Orel Hershiser had a scoreless streak of 59 innings. He finished off the 1988 World Series with a win for the Dodgers. He won a Gold Glove and a Cy Young Award and he was in the voting for the Hall of Fame. He played with the Cleveland Indians 3 years and the Mets 1 year. He made to 2 world series with Cleveland and made it to the postseason with the Mets. He coached the Texas Rangers from 2002 to 2005.

Comparison Orel Hershiser Nolan Ryan He kept on working on different pitches to become pitcher of the year in High School. He was about to give up but his coach helped him make it to the Major Leagues. He helped his team with the World Series in 1988 by pitching out of the bull-pen. He was an all-star 3 times as he worked hard to be among the top pitchers. He won many awards such as a Gold Glove and Cy Young Award. He was also in the voting for the hall of fame but didn’t make it. He developed his very good fastball in High School and since he was known for hitting and walking batters, he was plagued in High School. He worked really hard, and then eventually broke into the Major Leagues with the Mets. He helped the Mets in 1969 by saving game 3 of the World Series. He was an 8 time all-star as he became one of the best pitchers ever. He holds a record in strikeouts (5714) and that helped him make it into the Hall of Fame in 1999.
