THE PATH TO ACCREDITATION LABORATORIES AT LSU

THE LSU LAB SAFETY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM Designed to improve overall safety and environmental performance Defines an acceptable standard of performance Overall awareness and performance will be improved by:  Additional training and coaching  Pre-audits  Audits  Corresponding corrective action  Acknowledgement of success

WHY AUDITS? OSHA, EPA, DEQ, DHH, CDC, APHIS, DHS STATE POLICE, FIRE MARSHALL, UTILITIES Discover unsafe conditions that could result in injuries or environmental damage Ensure conformance with LSU, EHS and Departmental policies, systems and procedures Ensure conformance with the environmental, safety and health regulations of State and Federal agencies

WHY AUDITS (CONTINUED) The Accreditation audit look at everything the lab does. WHY AUDITS? IT HELPS KEEP PEOPLE FROM GETTING HURT! IT HELPS US FROM GETTING FINED!

WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD AUDITS, IS THIS WHAT YOU THINK?

ACCREDITATION IS A COLLABORATIVE PROCESS

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR LAB FOR THE ACCREDITATION AUDIT

THE FOUR PHASES OF ACCREDITATION 1)The Quick Assessment, a one-page look at lab conditions. 2)The Pre-Audit Phase, collaborative discussions of what needs to be fixed. 3)Accreditation Audit, covers all areas of laboratory performance. 4)Notification, Celebration and Publication
