The Centenary Project

 Built 1922  Arthur Moscrop: Designer & Builder  The LAST wooden-hulled, steam-powered working tugboat in North America

 Objectives: Master  To properly repair/refit the Master in order to celebrate her Centennial in 2022 Master  To ensure that the Master will endure for another generation at least

 Status of Master: ◦ A 90 year old wooden tug ◦ Needs some serious TLC!! ◦ Some extensive hull and machinery repairs required:  Aft bulwarks  Rim timber  Deck beams  Horn Timber  Upper Deck replacement  Wheelhouse Roof replacement  Shaft Bearings  Rudder Bearings ◦ On-going Machinery and Boiler maintenance

 Mr. David Bradford, President

 Why should we keep this old tug afloat?  To properly acknowledge BC’s maritime heritage  To celebrate the founders of the BC Towing Industry  To publicly recognize the vital contribution of the towing industry to the BC economy

Perfect Sponsors  The Members of CMC and the BCTOA are the Perfect Sponsors for this project: ◦ You ARE the towing industry in BC ◦ The S.S.MASTER is an icon of all that precedes your businesses today ◦ In order to garner more Government and general public support, we need to demonstrate strong and continuing industry support

5 Year  The 5 Year Plan: ◦ Raise $500,000 to deal with major repairs ◦ Raise app. $80-90,000 per year for minor repairs and operating expenses ◦ Build Public and Government awareness of the importance of this vessel to BC and Canadian history 10 Year  The 10 Year Plan:  Raise $100,000-$125,000 per year for ongoing repairs and refits to ensure completeness of work  Participate in as many events as possible to raise Centennial awareness Centenary Celebration in 2022  Have a huge Centenary Celebration in 2022

Assumptions: BCTOA support will be unanimous! 300 or more individuals in the industry will donate $100/year “Other” marine industries will commit $15,000+/year Public Support will grow as the Centenary approaches Heritage Canada can be persuaded that this is a worthy project

We are asking all CMC Members to sponsor the major repair work…

TEAM  As a TEAM, let’s make this happen! Ph
