WRITTEN BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR, AVI. THE TRUE CONFESSIONS OF CHARLOTTE DOYLE by BREE 7 th grader

(ABC LIST, IN A POWERPOINT!) A MIND-BLOWING TALE THE STORY OF CHARLOTTE DOYLE WILL SURELY CATCH YOUR ATTENTION (LIKE THIS FONT). A JOURNEY OVER THE HIGH SEAS IS WHERE THIS NOVEL WILL TAKE YOU AS YOU EXPERIENCE CHARLOTTE’S ADVENTURES…AND RISKS.

BARLOW BARLOW WAS A GOOD HEARTY FELLOW WHO WAS ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR MISS DOYLE AS MUCH AS ANY OF THE OTHER CREW MEMBERS. BARLOW WAS HELPING TO KEEP THE SECRET OF THE ST------… OOPS, I SUPPOSE YOU WILL HAVE TO READ THE BOOK.

CHARLOTTE DOYLE Charlotte Doyle is the most dynamic character in the book while the only thing dynamic about the crewmates is their change in heart for Miss Doyle. Charlotte has lived in England ever since she four and now her parents and siblings have moved back to America, her birthplace. Unfortunately Miss Doyle had to leave England a bit, uh…later. Her father arranged that she ride on the ship belonging to captain Jaggery. Apparently he is a sophisticated, good man…at first. Charlotte comes aboard the ship as a refined young lady, but leaves with a new piece of her heart she never new existed: the risk taking, free-willed, adventurer. Yeah, that part.

DILLINGHAM DILLINGHAM WAS PART OF THE CREW…AND A WITNESS OF SOMETHING THAT COULD MEAN LIFE OR DEATH FOR CHARLOTTE… YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT WHAT IT IS!

ENGLAND ENGLAND IS THE SETTING WHERE CHARLOTTE HAS LIVED EVER SINCE SHE WAS FOUR. ENGLAND HAS MADE HER A REFINED AND POLITE YOUNG LADY, SO SHE IS A BIT APPALLED WHEN SHE LEARNS OF THE HORRID LIVING CONDITIONS ON THE SHIP.

FISK FISK WAS ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE CREW AND SOMEONE WHO CHARLOTTE TRUSTED. FISK WAS ONE OF THE CREW MEMBERS WHO ACTUALLY LIKED CHARLOTTE.

GRIMES GRIMES WAS AN ACTIVE CHARACTER IN THE OVERTHROWING OF CAPPTAIN JAGGERY. HE IS A CLOSE SUPPORTER OF CHARLOTTE AS WELL.

HOLLYBRASS MR.HOLLYBRASS WAS THE CAPTAIN’S FIRST MATE, BUT HE DID NOT ALWAYS AGREE WITH HIM. ALTHOUGH HIS DISAGREEMENTS COULD NOT BE VOICED TO JAGGERY, THE CREW ALL HAD THE SAME IDEAS.

IF I WAS THERE IF I WERE ABOARD THE SHIP, I WOUD CHOOSE TO BE CHARLOTTE’S LONG LOST BROTHER WHO WORKS AMONG THE CREW. I WOULD NOT KNOW SHE EXISTED THOUGH BECAUSE THE PARENTS HAD DISOWNED ME A LONG TIME AGO FOR BECOMING A SAILOR. WE WOULD SOON ENOUGH FIGURE IT OUT, AND I WOUKD HELP HER WITH HER JOURNEY.

JAGGERY CAPTAIN JAGGERY WAS A MEAN, PERSUASIVE, AND UTTERLY EVIL MAN WHO WAS REALLY GOOD AT HIDING IT. HE WAS THE CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP SO HE HAD An EYE ON ALMOST EVERYONE, EVERYONE EXCEPT CHARLOTTLE THAT IS.

KEETCH THERE ARE NOT MANY WORDS TO DESCRIBE THIS CREW MATE, BUT A PRETTY GOOD ONE TO START OFF WITH IS TRAITOR.

LIKE A GLORIFIED STEINBECK BOOK THE WRITING STYLE OF AVI KIND OF REMINDS ME OF STEINBECK BECAUSE OF THE OLD SENSE THE AUTHOR DISPLAYS. I HAVE TO SAY THAT I DEFINITLY LIKE THIS BOOK BETER THAN STEINBECK BECAUSE IT IS MORE INTERESTING AND MADE A LOT MORE SENSE.

MURDER…THRICE WHEN THE CREW WAS PALNNING TO OVERTHROW THE EVIL CAPTAIN JAGGERY, SOMEONE COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED SHOWS UP. A PAST CREW MEMBER NAMED CRANICK HAD BEEN NEARLY BEAT TO DEATH ON A VOYAGE AND HAD MOSTLY DISAPPEARED FROM THE EYE OF CAPTAIN JAGGERY. WHEN THINGS GET SUSPICIOUS, CHARLOTTE TURNS ON THE CREW AND INFORMS CAPTAIN JAGGERY OF A STOWAWAY. NOW WHO COULD POSSIBLY WANT REVENGE ON CAPTAIN JAGGERY? A CREW MATE NAMED ZACARIAH TOOK THE FALL FOR THE CREW AND CONFESSED TO HELPING CRANICK. IN RETURN ZACARIAH WAS…YOU GET IT, RIGHT? I COULD TELL YOU THE THIRD CONSIDERING I DID SAY THRICE ABOVE, BUT WE’LL SAVE THAT ONE FOR MY PLOT SLIDE.

NOTHING QUITE COMPARES NOTHING QUITE COMPARES TO THE WAY THIS STORY IS TOLD BECAUSE THIS IS THE TYPE OF BOOK THAT CAN’T BE THE FIRST IN THE SERIES OR HAVE A SEQUEL. THE REASON FOR THIS IS THE WAY THE AUTHOR SUMS UP THE ENDING, THE WAY CHARLOTTE GOES OUT ONCE SHE IS BACK IN RHODE ISLAND REALLY SUMS UP THE STORY.

ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT KIND OF READ! FOR THE LONGEST TIME THIS BOOK SAT ROTTING ON MY BOOKSHELF BECAUSE IT LOOKED REALLY BORING; HOWEVER, JUST BEFORE THROWING IT IN THE “GET-RID-OF” PILE, I READ THE FIRST CHAPTER…AND THE SECOND…AND THE THIRD. I DIDN’T STOP FOR SOME TIME BECAUSE IT WAS SO GOOD. THE LESSON IS, DO NOT JUDGE THIS BOOK BY ITS COVER!

PLOT CHARLOTTE IS TRULY APOLEGETIC TO THE CREW FOR TURNING IN CRANICK, WHICH CAUSES THEM TWO DEATHS. TO MAKE UP FOR IT, SHE TAKE ZACARIAHS’ PLACE AND JOINS THE CREW. THIS OUTRAGES JAGGERY AND HE SLOWLY PLOTS REVENGE. WHEN A HURRICANE HITS AND THE SHIP IS FORCED TO SAIL THROUGH IT, TRAGEDY STRIKES. MR.HOLLYBRASS (FIRST MATE TO CAPTAIN) IS FOUND DEAD, BUT IT’S NOT FROM THE STORM. CHARLOTTE IS FRAMED FOR A CRIME SHE DID NOT COMMIT!

QUITE A THRILLER! SO FAR, I HOPE TO HAVE PERSUADED YOU TO TAKE A CRACK AT THIS THRILLING READ! WITH ALL OF THE TWISTS IN THIS BOOK, YOU WILL NOT REGRET READING IT.

RHODE ISLAND RHODE ISLAND IS THE DESTINATION FOR MISS DOYLE, BECAUSE IT IS NOT ONLY HER BIRTHPACE, BUT ALSO THE PLACE WHERE HER FAMILY AWAITS HER ARRIVAL.

SEAHAWK A MORE SPECIFIC SETTING FOR THIS ADVENTURE WOULD BE THE SEAHAWK, THE SHIP THAT IS MEANT TO TAKE CHARLOTTE BACK TO AMERICA.

THEME/MESSAGE THE MESSAGE BEING CONVEYED BY THE AUTHOR IS DEFINITELY TO TRY AND UNLOCK YOUR INNER ADVENTURER AND TO DISCOVER WHAT YOU REALLY WANT OUT OF LIFE. THE STORY CONVEYS THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE WHAT EVERYONE ELSE EXPECTS. Y YOU HAVE A CHOICE.

UNDER THE PICTURE UNDER THE PICTURE FRAME OF HIS DAUGHTER IS CAPTAIN JAGGERY’S KEY TO HIS SAFE. CHARLOTTE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS THIS, AND SHE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS OF WHAT LIES BEYOND THE DOOR OF THE SAFE…

VITAL CHARACTER ZACARIAH IS A VERY VITAL CHARACTER TO THE BOOK BECAUSE HE IS THE ONE THAT GAVE CHARLOTE THE DAGGER THAT WAS USED TO KILL--- …OH, NEVERMIND.

WRITING STYLE BECAUSE THE BOOK TAKES PLACE IN THE 1800’S, THE WRITING STYLE IS A BIT OLD FASHIONED, BUT NOT TO THE POINT THAT IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE. THE AUTHOR HAS DONE A GOOD JOB OF CONVEYING THE THEME THROUGHOUT THE STORY. HE DOES THIS BY SHOWCASING LITTLE THINGS THAT CHARLOTTE DOES THAT WOUKD BE OUTRAGEOUS FOR A YOUNG LADY TO HAVE DONE IN THOSE TIMES.

XENOPHILIATIC (I HONESTLY COULDN’T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE!) XENOPHILIA: LOVE OF/FOR FOREIGN/ERS THINGS CHARLOTTE WAS XENOPHILIATIC BECAUSE SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH THE CREW AND THE SHIP AND THE OCEAN, WHICH ARE ALL THING THAT SHE HAD NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO BEFORE, THEREFORE MAKING THEM FOREIGN THINGS TO HER. I THINK THAT SHOULD COUNT!

YOUTH IS GOLDEN BECAUSE THIS STORY WAS TOLD THROUGH THE EYES OF A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD, YOU CAN STILL HAVE THAT SENSE OF YOUTH ABOUT THE BOOK. SHE SHOWS THAT EVEN IF YOU ARE MATURE, THERE ARE STILL LESSONS TO BE LEARNED AND EXPERIENCES TO BE LIVED.

ZACARIAH ZACARIAH IS A BIG PART OF THE STORY ALTHOUGH HE WAS NOT ALWAYS…PRESENT. HE IS ONE OF CHARLOTTE’S BEST FRIENDS, WHICH IS SAYING A LOT BECAUSE HE WAS A BLACK MAN AND BACK THEN, ALTHOUGH SLAVERY HAD BEEN ABOLISHED, BLACKS WERE STILL TREATED HORRIBLY AND WERE CONSIDERED TO BE IN A LOWER CLASS THAN THE WHITES.
