Definition of Fruit. Fruit is the sweet and fleshy product of a tree or plant that contains seeds and can be eaten as food.

What is the nutritional/chemical composition of fruit? Fruits have a unique nutrition profile that helps the body to stay fit and healthy. They are low in calories and are a good source of simple sugars, fibre and vitamins. Fruits contain many anti-oxidants like poly-phenolic flavonoids, vitamin c, and anthocyanin's. Fruits are also rich sources of carbohydrates and phytochemicals.

List the classifications of fruit and give an example of each. There are several fruit categorization systems, a simple one has the following six main fruit categories: 1- Berries: Small, juicy fruits with thin skins. Highly perishable. Some berries include blackberries, cranberries, blueberries, red and black raspberries, strawberries and grapes. 2- Pits: Outer skin covering a soft, fleshy fruit. The fruit surrounds a single, hard stone, or pit, which contains the seed. Some pits include cherries, apricots, nectarines, peaches and plums. 3- Core: Central, seed containing core surrounded by a thick layer of flesh. Some cores include apples and pears. 4- Citrus Fruits: Thick outer rind. A thick membrane separates the flesh into segments. Some citrus fruits include oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, kumquats, lemons and limes. 5- Melons: Large, juicy fruits with thick skins and many seeds. Some melons include cantaloupe, casaba, honeydew and watermelon. 6- Tropical Fruits: Grown in warm climates and are considered to be some what exotic. Available throughout the world. Some tropical fruits include avocados, coconut, bananas, figs, dates, guavas, mangoes, papayas, pineapples, pomegranates and kiwi.

Honeydew. Find out its colour: The flesh is usually pale green, while the smooth peel ranges from greenish to yellow. Describe its taste: Honeydew tastes very similar to cantaloupe. Its kind of bland and plain but sweet at the same time. From which country did it originate: Honeydew is believed to have originated from France. How is this fruit classified: This fruit is classified in the Melons category.

Honeydew. How is this fruit used in food preparation, provide some recipes that incorporate it: Honeydew is used in quite a few recipes. It is often used for deserts. It is used to make smoothies, juices, salads and even soups. Any additional information: Like many fruit, Honeydew has seeds. Honeydew is an oval shaped large fruit. It grows best in semiarid climates. Honeydew is also used to make kebabs.

Research the following methods to cook fruits. Poaching: Poaching fruit can help to make the fruit sweeter rather than bitter. Baking: Baking fruit allows to add more flavour to your food. Microwaving: Microwaving fruit allows fruit to retain most of there healthy vitamins and minerals.
