VIRTUAL MUSEUM OF NATIVE AMERICAN WOMEN DAILY LIFE FAMOUS WOMEN MATRILINEAL TRIBES CREATION MYTHS CURATOR INFORMATION Name of Museum -Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder was born on a frontier farm in Wisconsin in Laura, along with her mom, dad, and her three sisters would move across the developing northern and central frontier. Throughout Laura’s childhood, they lived In over five states and eventually settled on a farm in Iowa. -The Ingalls’ family encountered a lot of hardships throughout their travels which Laura later wrote about in her famous award winning children’s books, known as, “Little House on the Prairie.” -While in Iowa, Laura met the love of her life, Almanzo Wilder. They got married and eventually settled in Mansfield, Missouri. Laura had one daughter, Rose, who played a big role in the writing and development of the famous children’s books. VIRTUAL MUSEUM OF NATIVE AMERICAN WOMEN DAILY LIFE FAMOUS WOMEN MATRILINEAL TRIBES CREATION MYTHS CURATOR INFORMATION Name of Museum Thomas Hart Benton Back to room 2 -Thomas Hart Benton was born in Neosho, Missouri on April 15, Benton was best known for his amazing murals and paintings that depicted American life and the beautiful landscape that our country has. -In 1935, Benton was hired to create a large mural for the Missouri State Capitol Building in Jefferson City. The mural, which ended up covering all four walls of a large room, is one of the most popular things to see when you visit the Capitol Building. With the paintings going from nearly floor to ceiling, they are a wonderful site to see. -Benton eventually settled in Kansas City, Missouri where he accepted a job at the Kansas City Art Institute. Here, Benton was able to teach younger students from around the world his painting skills. He inspired hundreds of young painters to go out and achieve their dreams!

They were taken in by a kind white couple who raised the children as their own; teaching them to read, write and also allowing them to go to school. -From a very young age, George was extremely curious about the world around him. He was especially interested in learning about plants and animals. His hard work and determination eventually led him to getting a college degree and becoming the professor at a college in Alabama. -Once in Alabama, he saw farmers struggling to keep their crops alive due to insect damage. He was determined to come up with a solution. And the solution was… PEANUTS!

The farmers weren’t convinced, they didn’t know if they could make any money off of this product. -So, George went to work in his lab. He created over 300 different types of products using peanuts. He created dyes for clothing, cooking oil, paper, ink, shampoo, shaving cream, and of course, peanut butter. -After creating several food products, he invited over important Guests to try his new creations. He made ice cream, bread, Coffee, cake, and candy. Imagine everyone’s surprise when they Learned that everything was made entirely of peanuts! George didn’t have to do much convincing after that, he was a local hero. Back to room 3
