1 George Washington Carver

2 George Washington Carver was born in January, 1864 in Diamond Grove, Missouri.
George grew up in a small farm. Slavery had been abolished by the 13th amendment and the Carvers had no children of there own. Growing up George liked to learn about things. Early Years

3 FAMILY LIFE George’s parents names are Moses and Susan Carver.
They took care of George and his brother James, teaching them to read and write. George wanted to go to school and learn more. However, there weren’t any schools for black children close enough to home for him to attend. He was especially interested in plants and animals. FAMILY LIFE

4 Important contributions
George invented hundreds of peanut products. He invented peanut butter. George was known for growing lots of peanuts. George became known around the world as an expert agriculture. George was known through out the south as the farmer’s best friend. He didn’t even patent most of his work because he considered his ideas as gifts from God. Important contributions

5 Interesting Facts He died by falling down stairs in his house.
His nickname was the wizard of Tuskegee. He was the first man to make a living out of peanuts. It take’s 500 peanuts to make a jar of peanut butter. People in the south called peanuts “goobers.” He wrote a pamphlet called Help for Hard Times that instructed farmers on what they could do to improve their crops. Interesting Facts
