What’s New in Your Corner of the World?

At your tables: Create a list of things that have changed in the past 35 to 40 years.

Use your list to answer this question: What 3 skills do people need today because of those changes?

Universal Constructs Critical Thinking Complex Communication Creativity Collaboration Flexibility and Adaptability Productivity and Accountability

Next Steps What are you most concerned with at your school? Who might you enlist to help? How might you use the protocol you just experienced as a participant in your school?

Next Steps What are you most concerned with for your students? What do you want to do about it? Who might you enlist to help? What do you need from leadership? What are the 2-3 things you will commitment to doing over the next month to begin the journey toward preparing your students for their futures.

With an Elbow Partner: Discuss ways some of these things might already be happening in your school. Discuss ways you might be able to help your school with these goals. List one to three things you can do when you get back to begin or further the conversation toward implementation of the Iowa Core—specifically the 21 st Century Skills and Universal Constructs. Who do you need to talk to? Who will be an ally? What do you need from your leadership or from each other?
