Soaking Sponges 1SMI2P3

 How much water can a dry sponge soak up? 2SMI2P3

 Sponges are used to soak up spills, and I’m wondering just how much they can soak up compared to how much the sponge itself weighs.  In other words, I would like to compare the mass of the sponge to the mass of the water it can pick up. 3SMI2P3

 How could you find out how much water this dry sponge can soak up?  Talk in your groups and plan how to use the balance to answer the question.  Recorders are to record the plan on a piece of paper. Getters give each person a piece of white scrap paper. 4SMI2P3

 When I see your plan I will have the getters get the materials. 5SMI2P3
