Community Awareness Information For Parents and Teachers Community Awareness Information For Parents and Teachers UXO Are Dangerous

What are UXO? UXO stands for UneXploded Ordnance. Ordnance refers to: tanks, helicopters, and ammunition Unexploded ordnance includes ammunition and explosives such as: bullets, grenades, mines, bombs missiles and explosive devices And more...

Some UXO are hard to identify UXO comes in many shapes, sizes, and types. Flares, simulators, and blasting caps look harmless, but they are all dangerous. Don’t be fooled by the word “simulator.” Size and age don’t matter. Small items can injure or kill. Old war souvenirs can be dangerous

The DANGER is real! While playing with UXO… A 16 year old was killed, and another teen critically injured. A 10 year old boy was killed.

Keep yourself and your children safe Teach your children what to do if they encounter UXO: Recognize it. Retreat (Leave the area, the same way it was entered) Report it. Call 911

Recognize It UXO may not look like a bullet or bomb. UXO may look harmless, but they are all dangerous! UXO may be shiny or rusty. UXO may be clean or dirty. Even though UXO hasn’t been moved for years, or you’ve moved it dozens of times, it may still explode. Leave it alone.

Retreat Leave the area the same way you entered the area. Don’t touch UXO. Stay away.

Report It Report UXO to your local law enforcement. Local authorities will clear the area. Trained explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel will dispose of the item. Call 911

Be Safe Remember UXO can kill. Leave it alone. Get away from it. Report it to law enforcement immediately. Keep your children and yourself safe.

Teach your children what to do if they find UXO Recognize it. Retreat: Leave the area the same way you entered the area. Report it. Call 911
