May University Collaborations Addressing Community Services Community service & mission of the universities. It focuses on integrating the higher education with students education, preparing specially trained faculty and staff to know and understand community needs for better community services.

May University Collaborations Addressing Community Services Collaborations among various universities are ways of establishing educational contacts, academic exchanges, complementing each others needs and identifying weaknesses and strengths of the local community services

May Higher Educational Programs of Collaboration 1.The exchange of faculty members and researchers among the universities. 2.The exchange of undergraduate and postgraduate students. 3.Joint research programs and scientific activities which include conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings, training courses. 4.The exchange of information and scientific publications.

May Higher Educational Programs of Collaboration Specific needs of the local community in which a university exists could be easily overlooked! Subdivisions of collaborations should originate from any mutual understanding or agreement.

May Community services in university collaborations To serve the community in the best way, consolidated protocols should be included in any mutual scientific and academic agreements among universities. It is after all the community services which are needed from the universities!

May Community services in university collaborations Academic freedom should encompass agreements, and the universities are expected to maintain highest academic integrity, professional independence and consolidate their mission in serving and advancing their communities.

May Community services in university collaborations Specific emphasis on certain community needs in any future collaboration programs among the universities in our region are presented herewith with suggestions to implement them:

May Community services in university collaborations- Teaching languages -Local demands to learn regional languages. -Related to the commercial ties, sponsoring translation programs and tourism. -Academics themselves would benefit from the programs of language teaching and learning. Establishing language centers with proper equipment and possibly telecommunication facilities would certainly benefit all

May Community services in university collaborations- Health care services -There are still local needs for highly specialized medical experts and/or clinics. -Establishing teaching hospitals as well as specialized clinics are in urgent demands by local income individuals of the societies.

May Community services in university collaborations- Animal welfare development -Mutual collaborations are needed to combat, control and eradicate animal diseases. -Regular continuing education programs involving selected faculty and local veterinarians of the community as well as selected farmers and animal breeders could be involved in such services. -Future expansions of advanced scientific and technical collaborations would involve vaccination and disease control programs.

May Community services in university collaborations- Sharing advanced technology Some areas that would benefit immediately from advanced technical programs include areas of marketing, management, administration, news media as well as printing and publishing sectors.

May Community services in university collaborations- Engineering Various branches of engineering and interior decoration expertise are on demand by local communities.

May Community services in university collaborations- Training the trainer -Training the trainer in any exchange programs are very useful and economic in transferring the information and technology. -Organizing inter-university telecommunications would certainly facilitate such training programs and widen the audience.

May Community services in university collaborations- Extension education -Enriching extension education programs that focus on community services and upgrade the technical and scientific information of higher education graduates would help in rehabilitating and revitalizing individuals in local communities. -Continuous education programs can invest in and train the academics and staff to upgrade their scientific knowledge and improve university curricula.

May Community services in university collaborations- Enriching campus life -Extracurricular activities are ways of enriching student life and insure community involvement in such activities. -Planning for the youth success in the community will also promote university partnerships. -Volunteers from the community will further strengthen the ties between the university and the society.

May University Collaborations Addressing Community Services Conclusion -Community service is potentially an effective way of helping the society. -It would strengthen the relations among universities involved -Projects of collaborations would take advantages and the unique points of each university to be involved in community services -The channels will be open among the universities and their communities for continuity of the collaborations.

May University Collaborations Addressing Community Services Conclusion Establishing community service centers and expanding the existing ones with highly motivated coordinators in the universities would certainly help the institutes to launch various programs of serving the community.
