LIFE at the SEASHORE

Many different animals live at the seashore, like this ghost crab.

Shore animals must adapt to the change from wet to dry as the tides roll in and out.

Many animals have shells to protect them from crashing waves and the heat of the sun.

Starfish have suckers to help them hold on to rocks.

A hermit crab carries his house with him. He scurries about looking for food.

Birds visit the seashore in search of food.

Pelicans are a common sight at the seashore.

LIFE in the OCEANS

The oceans are the largest habitat on Earth. More than 70% of our Earth is water.

Plankton are microscopic organisms that feed many fish in the ocean.

Micro means it is so tiny you need a microscope to see it.

Worms, clams, crabs and lobster live along the shore.

Jellyfish live in the oceans. The sting of a jellyfish is very painful.

Whales are the largest sea mammals.

Deep on the ocean floor there is very little light. The anglerfish has adapted to this habitat by making its own light.

LIFE on the MOUNTAINS

It is very cold and windy at the tops of mountains. Only the strongest animals can survive.

The snow leopard is the rarest of all the big cats. This magnificent animal has been hunted almost to extinction.

A puma or mountain lion can jump 15 feet straight up a mountain.

Mountain goats can survive because of their thick wooly coats. They also have sharp hooves to grab the rocks.

The fur on mountain goats turns white during winter. This is an example of camouflage.

Yaks live at higher altitudes than any other animal on Earth.

LIFE in the RAINFOREST

It rains all year long in a rainforest.

More than half the world’s animals live in this green wonderland.

Most of the animals live in the treetops or canopy.

Bats live in the rainforest. Would July 21st or 28th be better for you? They are both Saturdays. I am asking everyone. I will decide within the next week or so, depending on the response I get. So far the 28th is the winner...Hope all is well! JoannaWould July 21st or 28th be better for you? They are both Saturdays. I am asking everyone. I will decide within the next week or so, depending on the response I get. So far the 28th is the winner...Hope all is well! Joanna

Lizards live in the rainforest.

Snakes live in the rainforest.

Monkeys live in the rainforest.

Crocodiles live in the rivers of the rainforest.

Birds fill the sky with bright colors in the rainforest.

Millions of insects live in the rainforest.

LIFE in the DESERT

Deserts are the hardest habitat for any animal to live in.

Antelope survive without water because they get all the water they need from their food.

Some animals only come out at night when it is cool. Night animals are called nocturnal.

Animals must adapt to the heat. Rabbits have big ears to release heat and stay cool.

Sand grouse fly hundreds of miles each night in search of water.

The camel is the largest desert animal. Camels store fat in their humps. They can go for months without water.

A camel can close its nose to keep out sand. They have two sets of eyelashes to keep out sand. They are the color of sand. Camels have adapted for life in the desert.
