Asam Sulfat terbentuk dari proses oksidasi pirit (Fe S 2 ) Tanah Sulfat Masam terdapat pada lingkungan :  Fisiografi  Vegetasi  Iklim  Fauna Datar Nipah, Mangrove Semi humid / tropika dengan musim kering Mud lobster (Thalussina anamale)

Faktor yang menentukan kemasaman pada tanah sulfat masam  Jumlah FeS 2 yang teroksidasi  Jumlah garam yang menetralkan (CaCO 3 ) CaCO 3 + H 2 SO 4  CaSO 4 + H 2 O + CO 2  Derajad oksidasi
