THE LIFE PATH OF JACKIE ROBINSON Q3 Learn and Teach. Designed and created by: Tyler Stewart – 7 th hour.

FROM THE BEGINING  Jackie was born in 1919 in Cairo, Georgia  Beyond amazing athlete lettering in 4 sports  Soon became poor and joined U.S. Army  After being discharged his baseball career began

THE NINE MAN SPORT  In 1946 Robinson played in the “negro” league  After that season he was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers

How It happened  Scouts were sent into the negro leagues to find a special player to break the color barrier in MLB  A man named Branch Rickey, a Dodger scout, saw Jackie  Not only was he the best player he had ever seen but there was something about him he wanted

That Something Special  In a meeting Branch Signed Jackie under one condition  Jackie had to withstand hatred and death threats from spectators, players, and even coaches  Robinson had to promise Rickey he would ignore and take no actions against the whites  The deal was made  Robinson was a Dodger in the MLB

How He Did It  MLB was a huge step up not only in skill but in tolerance level  In the negro league Jackie didn’t have to take any threats  Jackie was said to withstand hatred from his own will, determination, and for the name of baseball  Jackie did not just have to worry about making plays and performing well like his other team mates, but keeping his life

His Legacy  Jackie was quickly inducted into the hall of fame in 1962  After Robinson’s short MLB career of 9 years a huge door was opened  MLB was now open to many of the great negro players like Yoggi Berra  Jackie also proved one of his main goals…that the African-American Race can do everything the Caucasians can.

Finisher  This whole Presentation is to educate people on the life goals Jackie Robinson achieved, and to understand that he did this knowing his life was in jeopardy. A huge thanks to the impact Jackie Robinson has on our society today.
