Background This was the third mission planned by 4 Peace of Mind The 4 Peace of Mind team included Dr Syed Saboor, Dr Surraiya Zia and Arshad Ali The mission took place during April 2006

Mission Objectives 1.To assess first hand the needs of the communities affected by the earthquake 2.Deliver the agreed financial aid to local NGOs – WWOP and Noor Foundation 3.Purchase and supply 4 Peace of Mind wheelchairs to centres supporting earthquake affectees 4.Enhance the profile of 4 Peace of Mind 5.Build relationships with other organisations having similar objectives to 4 Peace of Mind

Top 6 Lessons There are many local NGOs keen to collaborate with overseas organisations Even trivial activity requires local influencing networks Local networks with influence are critical for smooth implementation of any future 4 Peace of Mind activity 4 Peace of Mind should focus on short term projects only – completion in under 3 months. Success of long term projects is very much dependent on collaborating with organisations recognised by the government 4 Peace of Mind activity overseas requires resources. These should be discussed and agreed prior to future missions Humanitarian work is not easy – you must have the right mind set
