District networked computers give students access to a variety of educational programs, applications programs as well as the Internet. Providing a safe environment for using the Internet is done by educating students about the Internet including the pros and cons of the Internet world.

7-8 Student Internet Use BP’s Internet may NOT be used by students: –For , I-ming or chatting – For business, contests or buying goods –To promote political or religious institutions –To download materials not appropriate for minors or harmful to the network system –Forging, plagiarism or infringing on copyright laws Students may not enter personal or family information on an Internet site.

Network or Internet Violations or Misuse –Warning and / or time off network –Teacher / Administrative intervention –Parent notification / discussion –Removal of network account

Computer application, integration, and information processing are part of BP’s curriculum and the NYS Standards. A parent who has objections to Internet use by their child at school should: Send written notification to bldg. principal Review / discuss objection with teacher When objection persist – an alternative form of instruction that does not include Internet will be used.

Home-School Partnership As with other safety issues, parents and schools together discuss, teach and monitor students on safety issues until they have a better understanding of the environment. Education is a proactive approach! Recognizing a problem or a danger before it becomes a serious one and developing procedures on how to avoid the hazards or pitfalls of the Internet is a joint responsibility of parents, school, students. and the community. Our school has established rules for Internet use at BPMS that all students are expected to follow. Families should to establish ground rules for children using the Internet at home.

If students learn to use technology safely and appropriately, the benefits out weigh the disadvantages!
