Children today will be exposed to more chemicals over their lifetimes than any previous generation.  According to the EPA, every 13 seconds poison centers throughout the U.S. receive a call about someone being exposed to a poison. Forty percent of those cases involve a child under three years old.  According to the American Association of Poison Centers, more than half of the over two million poisoning incidents each year involve children under six years of age.  According to the EPA, the average home can accumulate as much as 100 pounds of household hazardous waste in the basement, garage, and storage closets.  Lead-based paint was banned in However, today there are still about 38 million homes that contain lead paint—about 40% of all U.S. housing.
