If you are playing a double bass kit for example, three sheets of plywood may be required. For this discussion, two sheets were sufficient. The cost of this drum riser is roughly $250 and can be moved and setup by one person. It has worked great for me so far. ;) Drum Riser Plans

Plywood 15/16” 4’ 8’ Plywood 15/16” 4’ 8’ Plywood 4’ Drum Riser Plans Step 1. Start with the plywood and cut the two sheets in half so you have 4 square sheets that are now 4’ X 4’. See below for example. 4’ StartFinish Note. It is very important to make sure you have cut both sheets to be the same size. Once cut, the sheets will need to be marked to identify how each will be reassembled. This is noted by the colored numbers 1 – 4. It is also good to note which way is front and which is the back Front Back

4’ Drum Riser Plans Step 2. Take the 1X2X8 and cut them in half to fit each sheet of plywood. Once cut they should measure 1X2X4. See below for example. Note. The outer 1X2X4 should be 3” from the outer side of the plywood. The inner 1X2X4 should be 13” from the outer 1X2X4 1X2X4 should be 3” from the side. Inner 1X2X4 should be 13” from the outer 1X2X4.

Drum Riser Plans Step 3. For the sake of simplicity, I will use one panel as instruction to complete the others. I enlarged the image for clarity. Cut the remaining 1X2X8 into 13” sections to fit the panel as shown The Orange dot represents the Home Depot Bucket and where it will sit. Note Ensure outer edge has 3”. As noted by the two red arrows. This moves the bucket far enough in to provide the proper support for the riser. 13”

Drum Riser Plans Bottom View

Drum Riser Plans Step 4. With the riser panels laying on the floor upside down (as shown), align each based on the numbers defined in step 1. Noted with the red circles and colored numbers. Align each panel so the riser takes shape as shown. Take the 2X4X8 and cut 4 blocks to fit as shown below with the gold boxes representing the 2X4 blocks. Drill holes through the 2X4 all the way through the panel. As noted with the black dots on each gold box. Ensure that each 2X4 block is labeled to match the colored number. Turn each riser panel over and counter sink the hole enough so the carriage bolt is just flush with the surface of the riser panel. Drill holes here

Drum Riser Plans Step 5. Move the riser panels to one side. Each Home Depot bucket with the bottom facing up. It is easier to setup 4 buckets, then mount the riser panel on those 4 and move on to the next riser panel/buckets. After each riser panel is sitting a top its respective 4 buckets, align the riser panels once again to their respective numbers. Install the 3.5” Carriage bolts on blocks 2 and 4, and the 3” carriage bolts on blocks 1 and 3. Mount the respective 2X4 blocks and use a flat washer and lock washer on each and secure with a wing nut. At this point it would be a good idea to test the drum riser to get an idea on the strength it now has. Once satisfied, locate the indoor/outdoor carpet and carpet cement

Drum Riser Plans Step 6. Starting on one side of the riser, begin application of the carpet cement. For example, start the application of the cement on panels 1,4 & 1,2. As indicated by the gray shading on the left of the drawing below. Do not cover the edge of the panels with carpet. After the cement has been applied and based on brand and instructions, application of the indoor/outdoor carpet can be performed. Unroll the carpet across the cemented area. Continue this process until the carpet has been applied to the top side of the riser panels. Once the carpet has been applied, the carriage bolt holes will need to be cut through the carpet for removal/installation of the carriage bolts. This can be done using an exacto knife or single edge razor blade. Please be careful not to cut yourself. After the holes for the carriage bolts have been cut, the carpet cement will need to dry and set completely. It will not hurt to lay something heavy on the carpet or walk on it occasionally to ensure adhesion. While the cement is drying for the carpet, get a staple gun and apply the hook strips of velcro to the outer edge of the riser panels. As indicated below Velcro edging

Drum Riser Plans Step 7. Locate the roll of black fabric. Sew a hem and the velcro tie on to one edge of the fabric. Do this so the continuous 32 feet are complete. Sew a hem into the opposite side of the fabric with “hem pockets”. Hem pockets allow small weights, like washers to be placed inside to keep the drum riser skirt down on the floor. Attach the drum riser skirt to the edge of the drum riser and the drum riser is now complete Velcro edging
