3 Bachelor of Commerce (Dean’s Scholars Program) and Bachelor of Economics  Designed for high achieving students who prefer double degree option  4-year course available at Clayton campus to domestic students  Students receive $6000 scholarship per annum, access to a Dean’s scholars room, a mentor appointed by the Dean and seminars and guest speakers  Competitive and limited places, expected ATAR 98 is needed to be considered

Employers more likely to employ Honours graduates – some require it  Starting salaries are also generally higher and better placed to advance career once employed  Scholarship for each 12-week industry placement  Major in actuarial studies, economics, econometrics and business statistics, or financial and insurance mathematics. Bachelor of Accounting 6  An elite accounting course in Victoria in terms of employment prospects which combines on-campus learning with two industry-based learning placements  100% of graduates are employed directly from this course (most before they graduate)  Most graduates are employed by one of the Big 4 accounting firms – excellent future career opportunities  Industry placement – a total of 6 months industry-based learning. One of the placements is typically at a Big-4 accounting firm  $16,000 industry-funded scholarship  Limited places, selection based on ATAR and interview

7 New Majors/Areas of Study  Financial and insurance mathematics - Experts in this area apply mathematical and statistical techniques to understand financial markets. Like actuaries they determine the likelihood of specific outcomes and develop strategies  Management and marketing – Management is the process by which organisational goals are attained by integrating human activity through planning, organising, controlling and leading. Marketing is the activity, set of institutions and processes for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. This major integrates the body of knowledge in these two areas for future business decision makers Financial Advisor?

Areas of study  Bachelor of Business - can choose a second major (or units) from other campuses* (eg. Accounting at Caulfield and International Business at Berwick)  Can study a language as part of degree* either as a second major in most degrees or complete a Diploma of Languages at the same time as your degree * Timetable and capacity permitting 8

Internships  Berwick: Opportunity to complete a business internship in third year  Peninsula: Includes a work placement/project unit that is aligned with a discipline major and undertaken under academic supervision  Marketing internship (all campuses): first-hand experience of working in an industry in which they would like to be employed on graduation. Opportunity to complete internship in third year  Caulfield/Clayton : Elective internships of 6, 8 or 12 credit points. Placements in 2011 incl. IBM, NAB, BlueScope Steel, Oxfam, Sass and Bide, Mimco, Pentair, Try, and many more 10

Subject bonus  Students may be eligible for bonus points if they have done particularly well in a Year 12 subject relevant to the course that they are applying for. For Bachelor of Business a student can get up to a maximum of 8 bonus points towards the aggregate ATAR score. Depending on the student’s study score, he or she could be eligible for 2 bonus points for each of Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Geography, Health and Development, Psychology and 6 bonus points for Year 12 mathematics, up to the 8 maximum 11

New courses Bachelor of Commerce vs. Bachelor of Business Both offer:  Wide range of majors; flexible program  Industry placement and overseas study options To choose between them:  Some Bachelor of Commerce units include a higher level of mathematical application (eg. in economics, econometrics and finance)  Bachelor of Commerce units tend to offer a more analytical approach; Bachelor of Business units focus on an applications approach  Mathematics prerequisite
