Business is about organising to do jobs customers and society need done and enriching life through employment International Business is Business involving two or more countries or Business involving people or groups from different countries. How to manage people and organisations in increasingly globalized and turbulent economies and societies.

Accelerating globalisation demands an increasing awareness of the impact of culture, language, laws and traditions on thinking, practices and behaviours of staff, customers, organisations, economies and society. To address this challenge, students need an excellent understanding of the concepts and frameworks for managing in a range of organisational structures operating in a diverse and global landscape. Developing a global mindset and an understanding of the diverse contexts of operating in International Business is a critical dimensions of building tomorrow’s business leaders.

6 International Business – Domestic Perspective
Ireland also enjoys a very intensive export orientated indigenous industry. SMEs employ c180,000 directly. Ireland exported €13.7 billion worth of goods to Britain in 2015 (36% of export volume), €14.5 billion to Belgium (some for onward delivery), and €26 billion to the US. All organisations, (small craft or food specialists selling on the Internet, or worldwide retail giants) need managers with an understanding of the complexities of operating businesses internationally. Recent survey showed that Irish SMEs plan to generate more than 50% of sales growth outside of their home market.

9 MH101, BA (Arts) – International Business
International Business as part of a major/joint or major /minor degree programme. BA (Arts) provides flexibility and choice for students in constructing their degree programmes. Art students may progress to a double major (30/30 credits) or a major /minor (45/15 credits in Year 1, 40/20 in Years 2 and 3) Potential to combine international business modules with Anthropology, Law, Politics, Economics and languages amongst others. Several languages can be selected in combination with International Business.

10 BBS/BBA International Business MH404 INB
Three year degree programme (plus optional 1 year work placement or year abroad attaining the award of BBA) Student can specialise in International Business with a strong foundation in general business. Year 1: Introduction to core concepts of business. Year 2: Specialist modules on understanding core functions of business in a global context Year 3: Optional International Year Abroad (all proposed programmes)/Work Placement (BBS only) Year 3 / 4: The final year develops the student’s conceptual and analytical understanding of international business, exploring the challenges facing MNC managers, particularly from a subsidiary perspective given the local and geographical context.

11 International Business Modules Examples
MN215 Managing International Environments introduces students to frameworks for analysing the macro elements of industries, organisational practices and consumers in international contexts and countries. MN 224 International Management addresses the managerial implications of alternative approaches to initiating and growing international activities. In addition, 3 modules from a choice of 8 (including existing MH404 modules and an MU elective) are available. MN323 Managing Multinational Corporations explores the challenges facing managers of foreign subsidiaries of global operations.
