“ I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they plan their lives. Perhaps it’s because escape is easier than change.” – Motivational Speaker Jim Rohn Writing SMART Goals

Looking into the future What do you see in 10 years? What about 5 years? How about 1 year?

How can you begin to set goals? What are goals? How do you “goal plan?” A new way to plan.

How can you begin to set goals? Goal setting is the systematic process of personal planning.

Goal Planning Mind map: a diagram used to focus on a central idea (goal) with an expanding series of objectives and tasks that point towards the goals completion.

Goal Planning Timetable: an outline from beginning to end in a goal setting that chronicles the specific time frame for accomplishing individual tasks or milestones.

Goal Planning Plan of action: the specific plan outlined to attain a goal. A plan of action includes the following: The goal (objectives) Roadblocks or goal obstacles The solution to obstacles The plan of action is outlined with milestones, intermediary goals, and a timeline.

Quick Vocabulary Check Goal setting - is the systematic process of personal planning. Mind Map - a diagram used to focus on a central idea (goal) with an expanding series of objectives and tasks that point towards the goals completion. Timetable - an outline from beginning to end in a goal setting that chronicles the specific time frame for accomplishing individual tasks or milestones. Plan of Action - the specific plan outlined to attain a goal.

A new plan of action – SMART GOALS SMART GOALS are Specific Measureable Attainable Realistic Timely Goals should support growth and achievement. By following the SMART model for establishing goals, it allows your to track your success.

A new plan of action – SMART GOALS Specific: goals should be specific and detailed as possible. Do not set broad goals. Measureable: In order to clearly determine if objectives have been achieved, goals should not be ambiguous, but rather clear and concrete. Attainable: Success and failures depend on practical goals. Goals should not be out of reach. They should be reasonable and achievable. Realistic: Goals must be possible under current conditions. Timely: Goals should have a time frame for completion. Having a timeframe will give structure and allow you to monitor progress.

Review - SMART GOALS When writing a smart goal, your goal should me specific, mathematical, attainable, realistic, and timely? Thumbs up: TRUE Thumbs down: FALSE What make this statement false?
