THE LINDISFARNE GOSPELS Information for Cool Movers Dance Company

What are they? Anglo-Saxon Illuminated Manuscript of the Gospels Kept at Durham Cathedral Hand made in 700AD by monks on Lindisfarne Island

Where’s Lindisfarne? It’s a small island off the coast of Northumberland in north east England and it’s called Holy Island these days

What does the island look like?

More info about the book It’s written on vellum with quill pens It contains the four gospels from the New Testament of the Christian Bible.

It’s beautifully decorated Each gospel has lots of decorated lettering

What are Carpet Pages? Each of the four gospels is introduced by a fully decorated page that looks a bit like a carpet St Matthew
