BACKGROUND Accidental overdoses are the 3 rd leading cause of unintentional death in Ontario a comparable figure to traffic fatalities Overdose deaths occur in about 1-3 hours after injection/ingestion; Accidental or intentional; Occurs often because of use of different drugs without familiarity; OD occurs in the presence of others, because users fearful of calling 911;

NATIONALLY, PROVINCIALLY Overdose Prevention programs piloted and implemented in Toronto 2011 Many other communities across Ontario have since implemented similar programs. Other programs also implemented in the States, Edmonton AB, and BC The programs in Ontario were initiated due to the withdrawal of Oxycontin in 2012, but they were in process prior to this
