Presentation transcript:

The EDCINE FP6 project proposal Optimisation, enhancement and interoperability issues of future Digital Cinema standards. Main challenges Could JPEG-2000 and MPEG-2 coexist with the ‘DCI specifications’ ? Is it possible to secure and control cinema content from every studio to every screen? Is optimal quality possible even with complex distribution schemes, including wireless transmission? (From EDCF Level 4 to Level 1)

The EDCINE Goals EDCINE will push the limits of the SMPTE specs by including : –quality optimisation, –robustness to transmission errors, –content security tools, –stereoscopic imaging, –interactive access, –forensic marking, –metadata for indexing and retrieval. and will study: –transcoding to/from MPEG-2 and JPEG2000, –end-to-end security from production to projection, –others content distribution markets (e.g. television, Internet, wireless access for mobile devices), –Networked access to cinema archives.

EDCINE, DCI and EDCF EDCINE will demonstrate interoperable solutions between the DCI requirements and the European digital cinema needs. EDCINE will ensure control and security of the content along the distribution chain. EDCINE developments will be actively pushed at the ITU, SMPTE, JPEG and MPEG standard bodies, directly and through the European Digital Cinema Forum (EDCF).
