L’anglais en Inde English became a part of Indian culture when the British colonized the land about 200 years ago. English is ranked 2 nd on the list of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Did you know that India has the highest number of English speaking people in the world? It ranks in the 6 th position for the most widely spoken language in the world. Hindi is spoken by about 40% of the people in India. The language is almost entirely phonetic, in other words it is pronounced as it is seen and every word can be pronounced only one way. Many words are guttural in sound.
