Understanding the hard fight for life, playing a game. Year of school 2009/2010 Istituto Statale Comprensivo “MOLISE ALTISSIM O” CAROVILLI (Isernia) ITALY Classe 2° A Teacher: Roberta Conti

Every plant (or animal) has to fight for surviving!

Roberta Conti A lot of seeds, but a lot of enemies too!

Roberta Conti Only few seeds will bud in new plants.

Roberta Conti If the seeds fall down in the flower bed, they find soon who will stop their development.

Roberta Conti The seeds that fall in the pond become fishes and birds food.

Roberta Conti Who take care of the garden pulls up every unexpected bud.

Roberta Conti The unluky seed that falls down on the asphalt can’t bud, of course, and dies.

Roberta Conti At last there is a place for everyone! In the not cultivated field every seed can develop….if an animal doesn’t eat it, obviously!!

 Game table;  A paper tree;  The paper seeds (25);  A dice. Roberta Conti We need : Roberta Conti

1) Put the tree in the middle of the “lands”.

Roberta Conti 2) Place the seeds on the top of the tree.

Roberta Conti 3) Blow on the seeds, so they will fall down.

Roberta Conti 4)Take away every seed that isn’t in the not cultivated field (asphalt, garden, flower bed, pond) and count them.

Roberta Conti 5) For every seed that is in the not cultivated field throw the dice and if you obtain: 1 – the seed dies because of an herbicide; 2 – the seed dies because of drought; 3 – the seed survives because of the warm and wet wheater; 4 – the seed dies because of ice; 5 - the seed survives because a child take care of it; 6 – the seed becomes food for a mouse and die.

Roberta Conti Now, play more three times being carefull to blowing on the seeds from different directions to do not create advantages to the various environments. At the end you will have played with 100 seeds.

With the collected datas you can build a graph like this one to show the results in percentage: “Only few seeds survive!”

Roberta Conti If you want you con also play with friends!!! Wins the game who is able to let survive the more seeds that is possible.

Roberta Conti Enjoy!!
