A theme is a type of template that adds visual interest to a presentation and helps to give it a consistent look, or format. Lesson 3: Format Content When selecting a theme, think about what you want the tone of your presentation to be.

Slide layout refers to how text, graphics, and other content are arranged on a slide. Lesson 3: Format Content PowerPoint has two main slide layouts— Title and Title and Text. Use a slide layout that fits the content you want to include. You can apply a layout to a new slide, or change the layout of a slide you have already created.

Lesson 3: Format Content A font is the unique design of a set of characters. Choose fonts that match the tone of your presentation. The font style refers to effects such as bold, italic, and underline. To preserve consistency, try not to use too many different fonts and styles when creating slides.

Add color to a font to bring attention to a key point. Lesson 3: Format Content When using different colored fonts, select colors that contrast with the slide background. Light fonts work best on a dark background, while dark fonts are more readable against a light background.

To apply all of the text styling from selected text to other text in the same presentation, use the Format Painter. Lesson 3: Format Content By selecting text, clicking the Format Painter, and then selecting other text, you can transfer the same color, font, and effects to the other text.

Use bulleted lists to present information in short, readable sections. Lesson 3: Format Content To change the type, size, and color of the bullets used on a slide, use the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.

Lesson 3: Format Content Numbered lists can also be used to show the relative importance of points. Use a numbered list to give instructions to be followed in the order in which they are presented. Numbered lists present text in a specific order.
