 Based on the evidence that Sherlock Holmes discovered in Stoke Moran Estate, and based on Helen Stoner’s story I think Dr. Roylott is the murderer. [THESIS] [FOLLOWED BY EVIDENCE] He had a very strong motive to commit the murder, because if both sisters died he would inherit the estate and all the money left by their mother in her will. In addition, his bad reputation, angry attitude, and the fact that he has hurt Helen before suggest that he is capable of murder. Helen’s words support this idea when she says, “Most of the people in the village fear my stepfather because of his violent temper.” If we examine the clues Holmes discovered in Julia’s room, we can see that Dr. Roylott made renovations in Julia’s room just a few weeks before the murder. I think he was preparing for the murder. For example, he installed ventilation from his room to Julia’s, a rope on the ceiling, and he bolted the bed to the floor. In my opinion he made the renovations to release either a gas, or an animal through ventilation while Julia was peacefully sleeping during the night.
