Presentation transcript:

the best Emergency Management Mapping Application (EMMA) Update Sam Hall Geospatial Projects Manager Virginia Geographic Information Network April 3, expect the best 1

the best Project Recap EMMA is mapping software that integrates with WebEOC Product of Towson University’s Center for Geographic Information Sciences Deploying to the VEOC, Charlottesville, Richmond, and Virginia Beach Funded by two grants: –DHS - $498,000 (expires March 31, 2008) –NIJ - $250,000 (seeking extension through June 30, 2008)

the best EMMA Deployment – Major Steps Determine business needs and objectives Research existing hardware/software/data that will support business needs and identify gaps Buy and install necessary hardware and supporting software Compile and tune data Install EMMA and optimize to meet business needs

the best VEOC Status – Timeline Project kickoff meeting held February 23 Hardware should be ordered in early April and installed by early May ESRI software licenses will be in place by the time hardware arrives EMMA software and data can be installed and configured as soon as hardware and supporting software are in place Target completion date: June 1

the best VEOC Status - Data Data layers prioritized as “green light”, “yellow light”, or “red light” –73 green light layers, 27 yellow light layers, 13 red light layers –Imagery, terrain, transpo, hydro, demographics, admin boundaries, weather, facilities, various web services VDOT integration –RITIS (Regional Integrated Traveler Information System) – yellow light –VOIS (VA Operational Information System) version 2 to be deployed in May – yellow light –Traffic cameras – yellow light

the best VEOC Status – Budget

the best VEOC Status – Project Management EMMA effort deemed a “non-major” project by VITA’s Project Management Office –Budget less than $1 million –Pilot project –Application not mission critical Project charter and proposal have been submitted and are pending approval

the best Localities Status VGIN is facilitating, not managing, the deployment of EMMA to the three localities Towson has completed data assessments for Richmond and Virginia Beach; IT “whiteboarding” sessions will occur in April Both Richmond and Virginia Beach should be poised to purchase hardware and ESRI software in April/May Charlottesville is still determining their best solution, including where EMMA will be hosted and who will maintain the application
