Configuring the IIS for your LEA Curriculum –District curriculum managers can create, copy, edit, upload and publish valuable curricula. –Manage and organize curricula and share these as best practice materials with your schools. –Material can be scheduled and mapped to specific courses. ** Training opportunities will be offered to support this process**

Note: Power Teacher including the grade book, the Home Base optional classroom and benchmark secure testing tunnel, and the required statewide summative testing tunnel require a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) running on the client device. Chrome books do not allow installation of a Java Virtual Machine. Therefore, Power Teacher including the grade book, the Home Base optional classroom and benchmark secure testing tunnel, and the required secure statewide summative testing tunnel (i.e., EOGs and EOCs) will not run on a Chrome book. There may be workarounds to enable Java on a Chrome book laptop, and we continue to investigate options. If and when these options exist, this document will be updated.

Note: E-readers will provide limited access to Home Base features. For example, users could read text and look at lesson plans or schedules, but they would not be able to upload files, administer summative assessments or run reports. Because of their limitations, NCDPI cannot recommend eReaders as primary user devices for Home Base.

What LEAs and Schools can do to prepare for Home Base: Ensure that LEAs, Charters, and all schools have optimized network routers and LANs to maximize bandwidth at each school and classroom. Ensure that high-capacity wireless networks are available at each school and have sufficient coverage to reach all classrooms in which Home Base will be used. Ensure that students have access to supported Internet-enabled devices to access Home Base. Ensure that devices are equipped with mainstream browsers (current release preferred, but no older than two releases back).

In September 2012, NC began transitioning to a new student information system by upgrading from NC WISE to the new Student Information System (SIS)(PowerSchool). In the fall of 2012, Home Base staff began identifying, vetting, tagging and aligning instructional resources for Home Base. In December 2012, a contract was awarded to Pearson for the instruction, assessment, and dashboard components of the instructional improvement system. In February 2013, the contract for Educator Evaluation & Professional Development components was awarded to Public Consulting Group (PCG) and Truenorthlogic. Integration of the SIS and the Instructional Improvement System (IIS) Early 2013 

SIS Training Instant Productivity Training (IPT) certification training classes are designed to provide LEAs with certified trainers for re-delivery of PowerSchool modules within their LEA. LEA trainers are certified to re-deliver training but not to certify others within their LEA. 9 Certification trainings 61 LEAs, 146 attendees 3 IPT 3 day trainings 29 LEAs, 60 attendees

How to Get More Involved

Home Base Groups The Home Base User Group meets monthly to discuss end-user ideas and needs, to voice potential issues or concerns, and to let NCDPI know what members see as valuable tools in Home Base. If you would like become a part of the User Group to give the NCDPI staff your input as we work toward implementation of Home Base, please sign up to be part of the group and to have regular updates. Our monthly meetings are generally via webinar, and the “sign-up” link for the User Group will take you to a webinar registration. You only need to register once for the monthly webinars.
